Exploring what to expect to pay for electrical work can be tricky. There is no real guarantee and prices cannot fluctuate wildly depending on the local area and the area of expertise. But this is not to say that you should just pay whatever the first guy you call says. In fact, the exact opposite electricians can charge anywhere from about $45 to $100 an hour, so it’s worth knowing some basics when it comes to pricing. After spending some time shopping for electricians, I went to my local library to find a DIY book and found the book ” Estimating Electrical Construction by Ed Tyler Here is a list of some of the most common electricians and the cost of an electrician for each of them based on what I found.
Death
A basic standard outlet with two three-prong plugs (you know the type you plug into a vacuum) will take an electrician less than 30 minutes to install. The entire installation, which means the outlet plate, the box, the wire and the work of your electrician should cost an average of somewhere between $35 and $50 per installation.
A Standard Single-Pole Switch can only be turned on (the type of switch that is probably in your closet or in your closet) and can be installed at about the same time as the standard outlet. The plate, switch, wire, box and labor will also cost you about the same as a standard outlet and will run you about $35-$50.
220 – Volt Outlet
This type of outlet is the larger three (sometimes four) trident outlet that you usually see for your line dryer ad. This type of output requires a thicker wire than the standard output and light switch and the parts are also larger. But the set time is about the same. Your average electrician price per installation will probably be around $45 – $60.
Hookup Electric Service to your home
This is the main installation of your electrical panel (you know the gray or green panel on the panel with the little black< /a> switches on it ) Most homes these days need at least 100 amps of service. If you have a larger home, you may need up to 200 amps or more. Check with an electrician or call your power company if you’re not sure how many amps you’ll need. The average electrician costs for a 100 amp service installation (including meter, trim, wire, panel, disconnect and weather head) is about 1500.
Whole Home Wiring It can be tricky. It all depends on how big your house is and how many electrical hooks you have. But a good way to estimate your average electrician cost is to figure out about $35 to $45 dollars hook-up (once you need electricity anywhere – outlets, switches, fans, lights, etc.). So count all the holes for your hooks, and then multiply that number by $40. But the best thing you’ll do is if you go to wire the whole house to get estimates from at least three different electricians and then go with whichever one is most comfortable for you (comfortably including more than just the price… sometimes guys will be low on you, which will actually kill you high).
