Exploring the Myth of Gaia

As a child, I loved Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Norse mythology. The stories involving the various characters were so woven into the fabric of things that many of them seemed likely, at least on the surface.

I believe that in every great story there are hidden grains of truth. Tricks in these grains without the beauty and subtleties of the stories are lost.

After a few weeks, I hope to explore some of the world’s greatest stories to discover the different truths hidden in each one. I chose a legendary earth goddess to begin with.

Most cultures recognize “mother earth” as feminine. Perhaps because it seems that the planet itself was specially designed to feed people. Only Egyptian mythology defies inclination and recognizes the earth as male. There he is known as Geb or the father of the earth.

Whatever its name, the land is recognized in almost every culture. born the universe.

Gaia did not want to remain alone, and therefore gave birth to the Titans themselves. Mary called it Pontus, and the sky Uranus or Ouranos. The god of heaven took Uranus as a husband for the sake of giving birth to more children.

But Uranus was afraid that his children might be more powerful than him. therefore he did not allow Gaia to give birth to them; for those imprisoned in the womb. This is an angry goddess who tried to overthrow her husband.

Gaia ordered her youngest son Kronos (sometimes called Cronos or Time) to cut the link between her and Uranus by cutting off his genitals. She also made a diamond sickle and offered him the material to succeed.

Kronos finished; some of the blood of Uranus, however, dripped onto the earth, procreating even more fetuses, including the Furies, the Giants, and the Nymphs. When heaven was freed from earth, the world was created.

But Gaia had more children than with her second husband Pontus or Pontus. This eventually led to the condition of all gods and goddesses of the world.

Pontus also tried to turn Gaia’s children into custody so that each of them could keep their position. He forced Jupiter to support the Titans trying to overthrow this goddess. Even that society turned evil when Jove was bound by Gaia’s Titan son to the Tartars. But all Gaia’s efforts to overthrow Jove were in vain, and in the end he reigned as the supreme king of the gods.

There are still people today who actively worship Gaia as the goddess of all creation. Some, like certain groups of Wiccans, consider her simply mother earth. Following this path, they often deny material possessions and try to become one with nature. Other groups consider Gaia to include the entire world. A common connection between them, when it can be found, is an attempt to reach a greater connection with the earth, especially with the universe with the universe.

So what grain of truth is hidden in the story of Gaia? This reminds us that we are all interconnected and, as such, we must learn to be in harmony with earthly resources and with all of our fellow humans. While the message itself is not entirely new, it is nonetheless timely. It is finally a chance to break through the stubbornness of the outer people. Today, more than ever before, people try to understand each other and strive to preserve the earth’s resources by working together. I doubt whether Gaia herself is asking for anything more – – or would – – .

Those who believe in the connection between the earth, God (or whatever deeper you believe in) and ourselves want to see Book or movie “The Celestial Prophecy.” It explains, perhaps better than any book in modern history, the significance of this mystical connection.
