Family TV Shows of the ’80s

Ahh….80 so fond memories. Bad hair, great colors, leg warmers and classic shows. I thought I would pay tribute to this fun time in history. The TV shows were funny, family oriented and had all sorts of quirky plots but we loved every minute of them. I invite you to take a walk down memory lane with me with my posts for the Top 10 TV shows of the 80’s that focus on family. I ordered them the second year they had the TV the day before.

1. Dissimi Ictus-1978-1986- about events in the Drummond family. Philip Drummond was a widower and had a daughter, Kimberly. He was also quite rich and lived in the rooms of a fine apartment building.

However, the family was shaken when Drummond’s black steward died and gave his dying wish to protect one of his two sons, Arnold and Willis Jackson. And so Drummond introduced them both, and they never became Drummond’s sons.

2. The Matter of Life-1979-1988-It was made into a TV show with the sitcom Diff’rent Strokes in which Charlotte Rae played Mrs. Garrett, the butler to Philip Drummond. In Facts of Life, Mrs. Garrett became the headmistress of an exclusive girls’ school, Eastland.

3. The Cosby Show– 1984-1992-Dr. Heathcliff “Cliff” Huxtable was an OBGYN (obstetrician/gynecologist), and his wife Clair was a successful attorney. They had five children, Sandra, Dyonisia, Theo, Vanessa and Rudia.

4. Family Winery-1982-1989- This TV series is mixed with family politics and revolves around the Keaton family. Steven and his wife Elyse had four children, Alex, Mallory, Jennifer and Andrew, who were born in 1985.

5. Silver Spoon- 1982-1987-Edward Stratton III’s father – likes Pac-Man, pinball machines and electric trains and his son Ricky Stratton is mature, sensible and understands computers. But Edward, in his 30s, is really a “boy”, while son Ricky is only 12. He was an “adult” in this funny TV show. The most memorable show was on the rooftops, a toy show in the living room of the mansion. Afhonso Ribeiro who played Alfonso Spears was Ricky’s best friend.

6. Who’s the Boss-1984-1992-Tony Danza played Tony Micelli’s widower, father and former baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals who was due to shoulder injury He ended up taking a job in an upscale Connecticut neighborhood as a housekeeper for Angela Bower (Judith Light), a divorced advertising executive who lived with her son Jonathan (Danny Pintauro) and her insane mother Mona.

7. Adolescence Dolores– 1985-1992-Dr. Jason Seaver is a psychiatrist who works at home because his wife Maggie has returned to work as a journalist. They had three children, Mike, Carol, and later Ben. Mike was known for breaking into and causing trouble in and out of the house. Charles was the middle child of the brain.

8. 227-1985-1990-This popular sitcom starred Marla Gibbs, who played Florence Johnston for many years on The Jeffersons. Mary Jenkins played a housewife with her contractor husband Lester and their 14-year-old daughter Brenda.

9. Captain of the Class-1986-1991- his focus was on achieving honors for students at Manhattan’s Milliard Fillmores High School. For they were so brainy that most of the old teachers just read books while they taught themselves. substitute teacher Charlie Moore, who realized that these kids were long on things, were seriously short on maturity; and to be able to apply a few lessons from the “book of life” before facing the real world.
