There is clear evidence that small amounts of fluoride, at or near levels added to the US water supply, present a potential risk to the thyroid gland, according to the National Research Council (NRC) first ever published fluoride/thyroid literature review.

Many Americans are exposed to levels of fluoride associated with thyroid effects, especially people with iodine deficiency says Kathleen Thiessen, PhD, co – author of the government-sponsored NRC report.

Iodine deficiency, the effect of the level drops to 0.7 milligrams/day for the average man”.
Among many others, the NRC Report cites human studies that show that
– fluoride concentrations in the thyroid exceeding those found in other soft tissues, except the kidneys
– the association between endemic goiter and exposure to fluoride or amber fluorosis in the population
– fluoride interferes with thyroid and parathyroid hormones, which are adverse to bone health
