Flower Crafting

Many people have turned to recycling to save money and at the same time make decorative flowers for their home and garden. Denial has blossomed in popularity in the last two years.

Artisans use items such as plastic bottles, coffee filters, ketchup containers, muffin cups, and pens. Likewise, things that are not beautiful in themselves can be thought of as objects of art and beauty, in the hands of artisans.

COFFEE WIRE FLOWERS AND PAGES FROM A BROKEN BOOK

One such artist who makes flowers out of an old cookbook (cut into strips) with kerchup cups and muffins as centers is Aunt Peaches at AuntPeaches.com.

Instructions

Tear the pages out of the book and cut them into strips with scissors – the pages are not cut completely
The part that doesn’t cut into the plate goes around the muffin cup (the brown part.) Poke a hole in the muffin cup and place a cup of ketchup through the middle of the hole.

Plastic Bottle Flowers

Another flower craft from Auntie Percy blogs is the Shirley Temple Flower arrangement (because it looks all pink and bubbly).

1. Take 4 pre-filters. The white ends add texture if desired or color to the edges.
2. to fold into quarters
3. Cut the edges.
4. After you all the flowers (6-10 flowers per centerpieces) separate and scatter them. This will create a different layer of petals for each layer and add richness to the final piece.
5. Choose 4 Filters. If some of your filters are darker, put one on top (then it’s finally inside).
6. Fold it in half.
7. Twist the end slightly to form a stub.
8. Insert the iron box (they are called that because I attach one steel star. Hmmm. Consider…
9. Insert the cake stalk into the gripper jaws of the crimper and squeeze together.http://www.auntpeaches.com/2010/08/friday-flowers-lunch-lady-flowers.html

1. Spread the coffee filter and place it on a plate or newspaper, it will soak the dye and water. Place on paper towels to dry.
2. Fold the chenille stem in half. Remember, only use half of the chenille stem to begin with.
3.-fold the accordion-style coffee filter, about .
4. Position the coffee filter plate at the end of the curved chenille stem. Center the filter to the bend.
5. Twist the chenille block around the filter to hold it in place.
6.-Bend the tips of the chenille over around to create antennae.
7. Fan the wings of a butterfly.
8. If you want, hang it twice with a thread or a fishing line.

For a more attractive butterfly, be sure to paint all white areas with paint. Tie a coin fishing line around the “neck” and hang it from the ceiling. They will look like they are running away!

Instead of using all the colors in one filter, make some with warm colors (red, yellow, gold) and some cool in color (blue, green, purple).
