Food Product Review: Amy’s Indian Mattar Tofu

I’ve been a huge fan of Indian food, and one of my favorite dishes is pano matari. However, I don’t have it very often because I’m trying to cut down on dairy, and cheese, as you know, is bread. I was happy when I came across Amy’s Indian Mattar Tofu in the frozen section of my local Whole Foods Market, because it’s a traditional non-dairy variety of the dish. Had I found a non-dairy version of paneer that I could love? Read on for the answer.

Amy Mattar Indian Tofu is a frozen dish that comes in a 9.5 ounce package. It features chunks of tofu and peas in a lightly seasoned sauce. Two side dishes are also included: basmati rice and dal (lentil) soaked in various vegetables and spices. . Amy Mattar Indian Tofu is a cinch to prepare. All you need to do is pop it in the microwave for five minutes and it’s ready to eat. Of course, you have the option of arranging it in a conventional oven, but it is more time consuming.

Amy’s Indian Mattar Tofu contains a host of healthy ingredients, including tofu, peas, onions, tomatoes, lentils, basmati rice and olive oil. It is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, iron and calcium, and has 0 P fat. In addition, it contains 5 P. dietary fiber, and is free from bioengineered drugs and CPV. It is also worth mentioning that Amy Mattar Indian Tofu is gluten free, so it is safe to eat for people who have celiac disease. Sodium in low diets should be noted, at 680mgs it provides almost 1/3 of the sodium. recommended total daily sodium intake (based on a 2000 calorie per day diet).

Amy’s Indian Mattar Tofu is delicious. It is light, fragrant and not too sharp. But the problem is the small portion. Like an appetizer (if you can even call it an entrée). And, at $4.69, it hardly seems worth it. I am even more disappointed that the tofu on the plate is a mere sprinkling of small pieces, there are hardly any pieces; I wanted bigger, biting cubes and more of them. If the product had a little bang for the buck, I could wholeheartedly recommend it. But, as it is, I couldn’t in good conscience recommend Amy Mattar Indian Tofu. Sadly, the search for a satisfying non-dairy version of my beloved mattari paneer continues.
