Free Legal Aid and Assistance Benefit Residents of Texas – Seniors, Low-Income, Illegals, Women, and More

Free help is available to Texas residents. Organizations throughout the state provide information and referrals at no cost to interested individuals.

AID NORTHWEST TEXAS (reluctant return)
Low-income residents may also qualify for free legal representation from Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. LANWT provides special case assistance for residents experiencing denials of public support, divorce, child support issues, evictions, and foreclosures. domestic violence, and consumer fraud. LANWT does not handle criminal cases or traffic offences. Individuals legally receive from private agents the same services as paying clients. LANWT also provides representation to communities and neighbors and sponsors educational programming. LANWT has strict income guidelines and only supports individuals in the north and north Texas area. For a complete list of counties, click here. TEXASLAWHELP.ORG (Texans Serving All);
Online resources for understanding Texas law are available at TexasLawHelp.org. On this site, individuals can search for information on civil affairs, including FEMA benefits, renters’ rights, protective orders; No statements, and more. TexasLawHelp.org also has easy-to-use search features that help individuals find free or low-cost legal representation in their area.

DEDICATED TO WOMEN – TEXAS JUSTICE INITIATIVE (Women Serve Domestic Violence
Women can escape domestic violence situations by legal assistance escaping through the Women’s Advocacy Project. He has a special interest in Texas with his Texas Justice Project. Residents throughout the state can get legal help with their case, including Project volunteers and explaining domestic violence laws, obtaining protective orders and other resources. The project also provides several hotlines, including the Family Violence Legal Line at (800) 374-HOPE, Family Law Line at (800) 777-FAIR, and the Sexual Assault Law Line at (800) 296-SAFE. LEGAL HOTLINE SENIOR TEXANS (serving Texans for more than 60 years
Texans age 60 and older can get free advice by calling (877) 526-9953, a toll-free hotline. Seniors of all income levels can gather information about wills, boundaries, power of attorney, home care complaints, and grandparents’ rights. ADVOCACY, INC. (Advocacy for Texans with Disabilities
Advocacy, Inc. assists Texans with disabilities, including physical, mental and developmental disabilities in obtaining fair treatment. Advocacy, Inc. provides free information and education, free referrals, and in some cases legal representation and assistance to attorneys Advocacy, Inc. serves the entire state and a complete list of contacts is available here.

TEXAS ATTORNEY GENERAL (Serves all Texans).
The office of Greg Abbott, the current attorney general of Texas, assists residents in collecting court-ordered child support, enforcement of the Child Protection Act, and overseeing the Crime Victims Compensation Fund. The Attorney General’s Office occasionally responds to public questions on a timely basis, but encourages individuals seeking legal assistance to contact an attorney service at (800) 252-9690. Free and low-income citizens can apply for free sponsorship from Catholic Charities throughout the state. In Dallas, call (214) 634-7182; in the El Paso area, call (806) 765-8475; in San Antonio, call (210) 433-3256; and in Houston, call (713) 874-6570. Services vary from city to city, but in general the agency provides services to illegal immigrants with asylum status. More agencies serving undocumented citizens can be found here.
