November 11: Veteran’s Day, or Armistice Day, celebrates the official end of World War One in Europe. Armistice is the laying down of arms in battle. Explore the history and significanceof Veteran’s Day with free printable activities. Veteran’s Day is so much more than just a bank holiday or a day that we don’t get mail. Veteran’s Day remembers and celebrates the lives and efforts of soldiers, sailors and airmen the world over and especially those who gave the last full measure. It has been said of World War One that it very nearly obliterated an entire generation. Here are some free printable activities and resources to help you explore World War One and Veteran’s Day in the classroom or at home.

Homeschooling.about.com (click here) has a very nice free printable nine page Veteran’s Day booklet. There is a Veteran’s Day craft page, coloring page, crossword puzzle, word search, American history quiz, writing activity and vocabulary page. These make excellent homeschool or public school Veteran’s Day lessons.
Enchantedlearning.com (click here) has dozens of printable lessons, crafts, puzzles, word search, booklets, vocabulary sheets, coloring sheets and cut and paste activities for Veteran’s Day. Enchanted Learning offers some free printables, but for a $20 annual site fee, you can have unlimited access to the thousands of printable lessons available on Enchanted Learning’s massive educational website. Many schools already have access codes. If you are a homeschooler, Enchanted Learning is the very first and best website the I would advise you to subscribe to. I got my money’s worth in just one day at Enchanted Learning by printing off a series of science activity booklets. I’m not sure that I could even put a value on the curriculum available for that $20 fee, but if I did, it would be somewhere around $2,000-$3000 minimum.
