The fallout from Rolling Stone‘s profile of General Stanley McChrystal, the federal commander in Afghanistan, will likely reinforce the public perception of Barack Obama as weak and ineffective. In the event of criticism of BP’s handling of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, this could seriously hurt the President.
The introduction to the Rolling Stone article reads, “Stanley McChrystal, Obama, the supreme leader in Afghanistan, seized control of the war. never taking his eyes off the real enemy: the wimps in White.
The article is called “General Fugitives.”
McChrystal has been recalled by his commander in Washington and is likely to receive a public hearing. President Obama presented the resignation to the theater commander who has the choice to accept or reject it after a face-to-face meeting.
New York Times reporter Dexter Filkins reported today that “President Obama is furious with his top commander in Afghanistan in Washington on Tuesday after a magazine article described the commander and staff as openly contemptuous of some of his senior members of the Obama administration.”
The senior media general counsel has already resigned, according to Reuters.

Walker resigns from the military (by doing so) and has become a figure in right-wing and racist political circles. Ironically, Lee Harvey Oswald, who was held by the Warren Commission to be the only hit man who relieved Walker of his command, had previously attempted to assassinate the controversial general.
George S. Brown, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff under Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, made anti-Semitic remarks to the press. saying that Israel has become a burden to the US military. General Air Force said Israel had too much political power in Congress and in the media because of the rush of sports money. He was arrested by President Ford but was allowed to serve his term.
Interestingly, James Jones — the “clown” according to McChrystal’s aides — had to apologize for an “inappropriate” joke he made about a Jewish businessman and the Taliban earlier this year.
