Glass Block Crafts You Can Make Yourself

Glass blocks, usually used as room dividers in homes, can be found for home improvement. Smaller versions can be found at a craft stores in various colors and sizes. Glass blocks can be made into all kinds of crafts that are unique and beautiful. Crafts make perfect gifts or additions to your home.

Glass blocks, about the size of ice cubes or slightly larger, are great for any number of things. . Purchase dolphin glass and use contact cement to hold the glass block. Mirrored figures of animals, angels, trains, and other collectibles are available at the art store and on display in the glass block.

Place a heavy rope in a wine glass then place three or four blocks of glass, the size of beds of ice; into the glass gel wax to make a beautiful and unique candle. Or use regular glue to stick the candle on the glass block as a candle holder. They use different sized glass blocks with different shaped candles for different looks.

Use the rub in applications to decorate smaller glass blocks like paperweights or something unique to put on a shelf. Glass blocks that have a smooth surface hold notebooks, pieces of fabric, film or contact paper shapes. For the blocks of glass, which paint the uneven surfaces of gold, are legendary. Use gray to paint a golden flower, your name, or another image.

Several smooth glass balls are connected in a row and attached to cement contact or left standing independently. Place them in your kitchen as a spice holder or a place to put candles or outside dishes. Do something similar with large blocks, in the bathroom, to put a place outside the towels, wash towels, or even toiletries.

Use contact cement to adhere the small pane of glass to the glass block. The bread should be quite a bit larger than the glass block itself. The block should be in the bottom center of the pan. Place a small novelty or a bunch of silk flowers in an area where you can see the cement contact through the pane of glass to hide the cement. Use stencils, paintbrushes or even rubber stamps to decorate the front of the glass pane. Place a votive candle on the log behind the bread which will shine on the bread making a beautiful decorative glass design.

Dremel tools, if you’re used to them, are great for filing glass blocks. Use a stencil and a Dremel to file the log area into a cone shape or whatever you want. If you press down one corner with a Dremel glass block, “standing in one corner” will give it a very different look.

The lamps inside the glass blocks are brilliant. You need to drill the hole first, using a diamond drill bit. A carbide drill bit will work but will also take longer. Wear safety glasses while doing some drilling or filing on glass blocks. Drill a hole large enough to hold a small string of Christmas lights. Use a Dremel tool to place a slot from the hole to the end of the glass block.

Turn the glass block over and adjust the cord so that it fits inside the slot. Now decorate the glass block with rub applications, gold plates or whatever you want. Do not paint the entire block of glass or the light will not shine. You can drill a hole all the way through, insert a metal pipe, and hang a candlestick in it.

If you have a drill but not a Dremel, you can drill a hole and let the cord hang from the top of the hole. Arrange a large bow, silk plant or small boxes to cover the core. Decorate the glass in any way you want. Use stencils to paint flowers on the bottom edge or small butterflies all over the glass.
