Golf Review: Titleist 909D2 Driver Review

In the last review, I seem to have the ability to title the 909D COMP. While this driver is definitely geared toward the mid to high handicap players out there, the new Titleist 909D2 is for those looking for a better way to drive. The 909D3 driver will still be a long and forgiving driver without a doubt, but there are some differences.

The Titleist 909D2 driver is an all-titanium driver, unlike the 909D COMP which sports a carbon crown. This will make the ball struggle a little lower, and in the long run it will be a little less forgiving than its bi-material brother.

The 909D2 features a 460cc head with a traditional look . I prefer this look because I feel it instills confidence in any player, and that’s a good thing. I feel that his triangular D1 driver is a little out of touch with his main base, which is a player who prefers a golfclub that looks like club!

It has the traditional Titleist punch, and the added weight of the screw is both perfectly positioned for the head and which one of their many custom shaft and grip options you can choose from. Like the COMP, the 909D2 features a massive face with a trapezoid design to maximize spring effect on the club face.

Add that and what do you have? And he said, Amen, I say to you…

This is a great driver for “non-players” from Titleist. It combines modern playability with classic good form that players of all skill levels can appreciate. There are many more arrows and grip options, and with fit your own club you can get fit or golf pro. Get yourself into a floor, long, bend, and combo grip that will bring you big hits for the New Year.

This club looked great to me and I felt great when I got the chance to hit it last week. Miss hits were released, and the sound and feel were mostly in stock Titleist, which is good and better! I was able to pull and drop with this club with no problems at all and even hit a few runners down as it was a windy day to hit. Of course, there is one thing I don’t like, and maybe first of all he said the lack of a solid face 1 piece, or “cup face” design. I feel this is the best way to realize distance, accuracy, and overall clubface in today’s drivers, and again, Titleist didn’t want to share my opinion!

Overall, this is a great driver from Titleist! The 909 D2 will get you out there and on the roll time and time again. While I still feel Taylor make the best drivers out there, (and even though I use a Macgregor MT460, again with a cup face) Titleist is working on the right thing.

Stay tuned for the next and final review of the new 2009 Titleist driver line, the 909D3.

Good morning!
