Goonies 2

When remembering their favorite movies, children of the 80’s will almost certainly remember The Goonies. Like many action stories, Goonies was not a big hit at the box office, or with critics, but the film’s reputation in the following years, as children and adolescents, reached. They liked it when they grew up. Today, it is remembered as one of the classics of our time.

The movie is mainly a childhood fantasy story. A land developer is trying to kick a bunch of families out of their homes, an area called “Goon Docks”. Together, the boys and three young men try to find the pirate lord’s lost treasure. A family of villains follows them every step of the way. In the end, the treasure was discovered, the villains were captured, and the Goon kept the docks.

Although children and teenagers seemed to love the film, critics gave it mixed reviews at best. Later airings on television and home video popular movies end of the decade. Notable credits include director Richard Donner and production assistance by Steven Spielberg. This was also the first time audiences met Sean Astin who went on to star in Lord of the Rings as Samwise Gamgee. He also developed the film Ke Huy Quan, now known as Jonathan Ke Quan, from Indiana Jones and Temple Adept

It continued to be in high demand from fans, and surprisingly, interest from fans remains. Talks continued as late as 2004. Director Richard Donner claimed he had a workable story, and Steven Spielberg was on board, but many of the original actors expressed no interest in returning. Yes, the project was released in 2004.

Nevertheless, DVD sales remain incredible. The film’s star, Sean Astin, told MTV in October 2007 that a sequel was a definite possibility. It would only make sense following such strong sales and continued approvals. But no production materialized. Donner doubted that there would be any consequences for the unwanted cast, despite Sean’s enthusiasm. Corey Feldman wrote in his blog on November 25 last year that Goonies 2 would never happen, but he quickly added, “Now I’ve said it will.”

Is the following possible? Well, even. But likely? No. Unfortunately, so much time has passed since 1985 and the release of classic-horror-films, at best. In the event of a mission, the sequel will have to rejoin the Goonies years later in another quest, or they will have to lead to younger Goonies, perhaps their children. The concept will work, but the film may seem significantly less magical. Perhaps that’s why the cast shows laziness.

But some production of speech continues, though not as a result. In March 2007, Entertainment Weekly reported talks of a musical adaptation of the classic film. Richard Donner was quoted as saying that he tried Spielberg, and that both things are encouraging. Another report from Variety in October 2008 mentioned that production was moving in the right direction.

While facing a rough line-up, Goonies fans will have to fall for Broadway. Another film that reaches into the future, thinking that the former’s mind changes have been discarded. For now we need to arrange the classical events on stage, with music. Who can imagine Chunk’s song? Well, it will happen.
