I found that this Grandpa’s thylox soap treats acne in four ways: “1. Softens the hard shell of acne blemishes (keratolytic action). 2. Helps dissolve and remove blackheads. 3. Washes away excess oils which may cause blackheads. 4. Freshens skin by its thorough cleansing action.” As listed on mothernature.com.
In my experience, my acne gets that “hard shell,” which in my opinion makes acne worse, I was so excited to find out that this does exactly that; this “softens the hard shell of acne blemishes”! At first, I couldn’t tell if it did that, but now that I have stopped using this soap for two weeks, I definitely notice the “hard shells” that I didn’t have before. To tell you the truth, I really didn’t see much improvement in my acne, and that’s why I chose a different soap after using the whole bar. I think the only real benefit that I got from this is that it makes my zits easier to pop since it makes my zits softer. I thought all kind of things would happen, like acne going away faster and not appearing as much, but they were just in my dream and no such thing happened.
It didn’t smell nice or feel real clean. I like the soaps that smell good. And this would have to be very close to the bottom of the list. Well, this did not smell offending, but it didn’t smell “good.” I think it smells kind of like the other sulfur products that I have tried but not quite the same. It smells like medicine, maybe, and not quite cosmetic-smelling or refreshing at all. I never trusted this alone to get my makeup out and used a separate makeup remover on the days that I wore makeup. And, when I did use this alone, I would get a whole load of makeup on the cotton pad that I used for my toner. But, I have to say that it was a little refreshing when I cleaned my face with this. Better than a lot of soaps at that, and since it didn’t smell refreshing, I did not expect this.
I have to say that this is a little drying since it’s for acne and oily skin, but my skin gets extremely dry during the winter, and this made my face comfortable. I guess it’s one of those smart products that doesn’t overly dry the skin and only dries the areas that are excessively oily. So, it’s good even on the dry skins.
Looking back on what I wrote, it seems like I’m warning all the people not to buy this because it doesn’t work. But, I don’t know any soap that worked wonders on my skin, and I have tried a lot. If there were no other soaps but all the ones that I have tried, I would definitely choose this. But, because I have hope of finding a better product, I would not settle for this.
