Great Fall Festivals in New England

I, like most people, love summer. Especially in New England where beaches and summer activities abound. But all good things come to an end, and this is true for summer in New England at least for the next nine months or so. Fall in New England, however, does not mean the end of all good things…after all the baseball season has come to an exciting conclusion, football is just catching up and there are activities everywhere. We often forget that fall can still be weatherproof and there are still many options.

Besides bike riding and running, there are plenty of activities sure to keep you out and about apple picking, pumpkin patching and hayrides. . Most of the events took place in the form of festivals celebrated throughout picturesque New England.

In September, for example, the fast airline Martha’s Vineyard, MA was held for the 4th Annual International Festival. September 10th through September 13th. The festival is full of films from around the world. There are many events coming up for this weekend and there will be lots to see and do.

They also offer MaineFare at the same times in Camden and Rockport, Maine. The event showcases some of the best chefs in and also offers classes and taste tests.

September 19th and 20th the 10th annual Telluride by the Sea event in Portsmouth, NH. This film festival was celebrated in the town of Portsmouth by jumping around and filming. This event, in coordination with the original Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, is meant to be on a much smaller scale in New England.

On September 25th, 26th and 27th in historic Newport, RI at Newport Mansions Wine & You gave food. This event is held in a few historic mansions overlooking the Atlantic. This is a great experience for wine and food lovers everywhere.

In October there is always the “Annual Harpoon Octoberfest” in Boston, MA. This year it was held on Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 3rd. This festival is full of beer, German food and music and they make it a fun-filled event.

Don’t miss Saturday October 10th th in Providence “Waterfire”, RI. While this event is held over several weeks from May through October, this is the last “Waterfire” of the year. In addition, this is one for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation. All fires are lit by the Providence River. There is beautiful music and wonderful tributes. That is to be remembered.

Also in October is the Mystic Seaport Chowderfest held at Mystic Theater, CT on October 10th, 11th and 12th. Nothing says New England like a festival dedicated to one of its very own locals. In addition, Mystic itself is a beautiful city with a full aquarium and shopping town. It is quintessential New England and is bound to be fun for the whole family.

On October 17th and 18th, the Wellfleet Oyster Festival is complete with all kinds of shells (especially oysters) and arts and crafts. There is also a terrible struggle of those who think that you are a broken enemy! Nothing says New England quite like it. This event is held in Wellfleet Cape Cod MA.

On October 23rd, 24th and 25th don’t miss Essex’s Fall Craft and Finish Art Show in Essex, VT. Vermont boasts some of New England’s most beautiful fall foliage, and this holiday is consistently ranked as one of the top in the United States.

Finally, the Halloween Walk boasts many events around New England. Because of the historical aspect of New England, there are plenty of ghost stories to tell and plenty of perfect places to tell them. The names of a few. “Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce” (Bristol, CT), “Dreams of the Sea in Mystic Sea” (Mystic, CT), “Day of the Dead Fiesta at the Essex Peabody Museum” (Salem, MA) and “Fort Adams Castle Dreams” (Newport, RI).
