I’m always on the hunt for affordable remodeling and interior decorating supplies. There is something about the abundance of contradictions and limitations that just annoys me to no end! Maybe it’s the hunt for some cool items to spice up our home decor or a great deal on replacement “special builder” cabinets. , lighting, and other types of our house. Little by little I am thinking of turning it into my only paradise! And there’s no better place to start that search than the Home for Humanity General in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Of course, they can all be shopped at Habitat for Humanity Stores because Restores across the U.S. and they are from Canada and some have websites where you can order whatever you like! Check out http://www.habitat.org/env/restores.aspx!
Aptly named “ReStores”, these stores offer surplus and used building materials, often donated by area construction companies and other businesses. and also thrifts of all kinds. By shopping at the ReStore, you’re helping the environment by reusing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills and helping produce products that Habitat for Humanity use to build homes in the community. Can’t beat getting out and shopping!
Here is some of what my local store has to offer: lighting fixtures of all kinds, good selection. kitchen and bathroom cabinets, patio furniture, plumbing, windows, doors, furniture, and all kinds of household items, such as books, games, clothing, pots, stoves, electronics. Even among the ancients a few are found. So what did I buy? I searched high and low for a way to organize my hids’ toys and other things in the playroom. I found two maple kitchen doors at Restore, bought a large piece of wood at a local store. store house, separated the cabinets a few feet apart and put the wood on top of the cabinet. The result is a fantastic way to store furniture – pullout shelves, carrying wood, awesome quality cabinets – with an inexpensive top that I just let the kids “decorate” as they like while they draw and paint.
Each of the maple cabinets cost $99 – I found similar cabinets priced at $175+ at local home stores – and that was without the pullout shelves and antique finish. I also bought three smaller cabinets, all maple, one with a beautiful cord crown, for $35 each! Some high-end bathroom fixtures and lighting in Newport News, Virginia, have been torn down.
