Hard Rock Band Symbols or Logos

While I am sure there are many more than what I have listed these are just the few I am currently aware of. I am not just including logos but also any recurring album art or images that are associated with a particular band. I did choose not to include any logos that were just letters as well.

The Guy who is known only by that name is a mascot for the hard rock band Disturbed and can be seen on several of the front covers of there albums. The Guy is perhaps one of the most recognizable band symbols and can be seen on the front cover of the three number one charting albums Ten Thousand Fist, Indestructible and most recently Asylum (Disturbed). The Guy was designed and drawn by an artist named Tod McFarlane and Greg Capullo who also draw for the comic Series Spawn (Spawn.com). The Guy is also featured in the Disturbed video for the Genesis cover Land of Confusion (Spawn.com). The Guy is not the only Disturbed logo the symbol on the front of the bands album Believe also shows up on much of their merchandise. The believe symbol consist of numerous religious symbols.

The Demon Hunter skull is another easily recognizable band symbol as it is on their album covers and most of their merchandise. The skull can be seen on the albums Demon Hunter, Summer of Darkness, The Triptych, Storm The Gates of Hell, The World Is A Thorn and both of the bands live albums (Demon Hunter). Gospel Music Channel describes the symbol on the front of storm the gates of hell as a”the skull of a dead demon with a bullet
hole through its head”.

Avenged Sevenfold uses a similar skull with wings on most of their album art. The winged skull can be seen clearly on the albums Waking The Fallen, City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold, and most recently Nightmare. This symbol is also seen on much of the bands apparel or other merchandise.

As I Lay Dying also uses a skull on the cover of all their albums though the weather or not it is the same skull I am unsure. A skull can be seen on the covers of A Long March, Frail Words Collapse, Shadows are Security, An Ocean Between Us and The Powerless Rise (As I Lay Dying Discography). When asked about the Skulls as a logo the band responded “I believe that death is a natural part of life, so there is nothing inherently wrong about a skull. For Christians, the theme of death should even be more important and is often overlooked as useful imagery. Dying to one’s self is a clear theme within the Gospels.” (As I Lay Dying FAQ).
