Holiday Gift Ideas for Your Child’s Favorite Teacher

The holidays are coming and if you have children in school you are probably wondering what to get your child’s teacher this year. Don’t fret, there is still time to get a great, thoughtful gift that doesn’t have to break your budget. Here are some ideas that are sure to get an A!

Include a Thank You Note. Whatever you decide to get your child’s teacher this year, please consider writing the teacher a well-deserved thank you note. Teachers work hard and they do so not for big salaries or large end-of-the-year bonuses, unlike some other occupations. They teach because they care about kids and want to make a difference. So showing that they have had an impact on your child’s life will mean a lot to your child’s teacher.

Gift Certificate to an Educational Store. Many teachers shop at a local educational store for their needs. You can find one in the telephone book, or by asking in the main office of your school. A gift certificate to this type of store would be a welcomed gift because there are many supplies that teachers wind up using that they don’t always get reimbursed for. Schools just don’t always have the budgets for them, or sometimes teachers like to be sure that they always have certain supplies for their own personal classrooms.

Gift Certificate to a Bookstore. Teachers are readers. Any teacher very likely has a large stack of books at home, just waiting to be read. A gift certificate to a bookstore would be a welcomed gift. Teachers read books they use in the classroom, they read for their personal interest and they also wind up reading books that inspire them to create lessons that wind up in the classroom.

Subscription to a Major Newspaper. Teachers like information. A subscription to a major newspaper would be a welcomed gift because often teachers wind up teaching about current events as part of history or civics lessons. They talk about hurricanes or weather conditions. They talk about human interest stories, such as baby animals being born at the local zoo. Even if your child’s teacher has a subscription to this newspaper, the teacher can get this gift subscription added on to the duration of their subscription. It is a lovely and thoughtful gift.

The Indulgence of Spa Services. Why not treat your child’s teacher to a facial or a manicure? Teachers are very busy people, the bell going off at 3pm does not signal the end of the day for them. They still have papers to correct, meetings to go to, lesson plans to create. Everyone appreciates the chance to take a little “me” time and just relax.

Photo Album or Picture Frames. Most teachers like to take pictures of the class during the year. Why not give your child’s teacher a place to put these photos? You can order personalized photo albums or picture frames, or simply select decorative picture frames that you think would appeal to your child’s teacher.

Travel Mug and Gourmet Coffee or Tea. So many teachers are out the door very early in the morning. Most of us start the morning with coffee or tea while we are commuting. Giving your child’s teacher a travel mug and a package of gourmet coffee beans or tea to enjoy would be a very thoughtful gift.
