Homemade Remedies to Get Rid of Pesky Moles

If you notice mounds of dirt and holes in your yard, then you probably are being invaded by pesky moles. Moles resemble mice, except they’re often dark gray in color. They also live underground where they feed on grubs and other bugs. It’s said that moles are beneficial because they aerate the ground. But they are really more of a nuisance. Use these homemade remedies to get rid of pesky moles!

1. Moles Hate Hot Peppers
Stuff a hot pepper in every mole hole you see in your yard, and these rodents will leave that area alone! I’ve used this homemade remedy quite a few times and it has worked every time. If you don’t grow hot peppers in your own garden, ask family or friends who do produce them if they have some extras they want to part with. If nothing else, you can always look for hot peppers at a farmers’ market or at your local grocery store.

2. Moles Hate Cats Too!
Much to my dismay, my cats couldn’t care less about catching moles. My dogs sometimes catch one or two of the rodents, but that doesn’t really help keep their numbers down. So, the next best thing to a real live cat is used kitty litter. Fill any mole holes you find in your yard with this material and they’ll vacate the area.

You can also use clean kitty litter as a homemade remedy to get rid of pesky moles as well. Just make sure it’s the “clumping” kind. Fill each hole you find with the litter, then pour some water in on top of it. The kitty litter will then harden up and stay hard.

3. Castor Oil Gets Rid of Pesky Moles
Castor oil has long been used as a terrible-tasting cure for constipation. It’s said to have other health benefits as well, if you can get past the taste. You can find castor oil at your local drug store.

Personally, I think the best use for this potent oil is to use it as a homemade remedy to get rid of pesky moles! Spray it into mole holes and on your lawn. Spray it anywhere you notice mounds of dirt where moles are invading your property.

4. Plant Chocolate Lilies Around Your Yard
Chocolate Lilies are unusual flowers because of their rare brown color. But, they’re also known for their horrible smell. How bad is it? Another nickname for this flower is “Dirty Diaper”, if that tells you anything. Plant some Chocolate Lilies around your yard where you’ve seen evidence of moles, and the smell will make them run.

5. Moles Don’t Like Rock ‘n Roll…
…or any other kind of music either! These rodents have very poor eyesight, but they have extremely sensitive hearing. Another homemade remedy to get rid of pesky moles is to place a radio on the ground near mole holes. The vibrations of the music won’t harm them, but it will make them pack up their bags and move to another location!
