I feel an explanation of what a Warrant Officer needs before I go any further is in order. For those unfamiliar with the military, a Warrant Officer is a technical expert in a particular field.
There are two main ways that someone who wants to become a Warrant Officer can achieve their goal. The average non-military citizen must enlist in the Army. This is a special route for those people who only study rotary wing pilots. Any other field requires a minimum of two years of military experience. The process is not unlike writing or applying for the Office of School Candidates. The process begins with the Armed Services Vocational Test (ASVAB). There is a minimum score required for the Warrant Officer program. The ASVAB itself has 10 different scores, the one thing an applicant should be most concerned about is the GT score. This is a common technical score. It basically tests a person’s aptitude for learning a technical trade.
After the ASVAB is taken, the applicant will be required to take a standard military physical as well as a flight physical. The first of these physicals takes place at the military entrance processing station (MEPS). Physical flight is being conducted in various locations around the country and a military flight surgeon is being held. I would like to mention that all the proofs that are required to apply for any account in the Army without the cost of a person.
Once the required test has been taken and passed, a formal application will need to be completed. It requires that the applicant write a one page why they want to be an Army aviator. and no less than two letters are referred. All this is compiled, and is transmitted by the caller to a higher level of the board. The present request allows the applicant to appear before this board and answer the questions of the conditions. As of this writing, anyone looking to become an Army aviator must only be a US citizen and a high school graduate. As always it is important to see the local host recruits for more up to date requirements.
As I said before, I am not looking for a Warrant Officer applicant, he must have two years of military experience in flying. Warrant Officer positions are available in almost every career field in the military today. The most common, besides aviation, is probably the Special Agent in Criminal Investigation. This is due in part to John Travolta’s role in the movie “The General’s Daughter”. The process schedule is basically the same for someone already in the Army. Minimum required GT score, essay, letters and reference books. In addition, the soldier is required to have his records on hand for review. Generally, a soldier can only apply for Warrant Officer positions related to their current occupation, but there may be instances in which a different field can be applied. Soldiers interested in applying for both aviation and other Warrant Officer positions should contact the Warrant Officer recruiting team through their website.
I hope this article has shed some light on what it takes to become a Warrant Officer in the US Army. As I said before, it is best to contact the host for more information about this program.
