How to Dye Your Hair at Home

Finding ways to save money is important to everyone these days. We are all looking for ways to cut our frivolous spending. Many women choose to save money by skipping on their trips to the salon. This may work in the short term, but in the end, it will cause you to look worn out. Your hair will look like it has not been taken care of and if you dye your hair on a regular basis your roots will show this neglect. You can keep your hair and your dye job looking great and still save money. Even if you have never chosen to dye your hair, you can still save money by dying your hair at home. Save money by following these easy steps and dye your hair at home.

Step One

Choose a hair color that is only one or two shades off from your natural color. You should not change your hair color drastically when you chose to dye your hair at home. At home dyes do not take into effect your natural hair color. They are formulated for all hair types and color. If you want to go drastic, it is better to seek the help of a professional. In this one case saving money is not worth the damage that you could do to your hair.

Step Two

Put on an old robe that you will not mind getting stained with hair dye. No matter how careful you are with dying your hair at home you will drip some dye onto yourself. If you plan to dye your hair at home often, keep the robe for just this event.

Step Three

Place the plastic gloves that come with your hair dye onto your hands. Hair dye can stain skin if it is left on it too long. Protect your hands with these gloves from the beginning to the end of the application process.

Step Four

Follow the package directions and mix the hair dye. Usually the instructions will have you mixing two containers of liquid into a squeeze bottle.

Step Five

Squeeze a generous amount of hair dye into your hands. Work the hair dye into your hair starting at the ends. Keep applying more hair dye into your hands and massaging it into your hair until your hair is saturated with the hair dye.

Step Six

Pile all of your hair on top of your head and cover with a disposable plastic shower cap. This will help to keep the hair dye from dripping. Allow the hair dye to sit on your hair for the time that is stated in the at home instructions.

Step Seven

Jump in the shower and rinse the hair dye out of your hair. You will want to let the water run through your hair until the water runs clear to make sure the excess hair dye is out.

Tips

If the at home hair dye contains a deep conditioning treatment, use it. Dying hair can dry out and damage hair so make sure that you condition it well afterwards.

You can usually get away with dying your hair at home every 8 to 10 weeks depending on how fast your roots begin to show.
