How To: Fantasy Football Auction Draft

The prey is changing, my friends. For better or worse, Fantasy Football is now king. Not only is he the king of all fantasy sports, he is the king of all American sports. fantasy football player is flattering to be fun rather than into him. I’ve been to NFL games recently where someone will talk about what players have in the game. I have overheard girls demanding to know who scored the touchdown, LT or Shonn Greene (to their dismay it was LT, not Shonn). As this trend develops, so must Fantasy targets developers. We can no longer sit around while people who don’t know how to play sleeper picks can’t take ours because some book told them to. We need to find a way to make the fantasy ice cream continue to rise to the top. I encourage you to do what you do, do the auction, when your season starts this fall.

How it works:
I feel a little silly explaining this too, but only because it’s relatively simple. What happens there is that the order of appointment is randomly selected. When it’s your turn not to actually take the players, you name the players. Each team will have $200 in cash for their team. When a player is nominated, he is usually nominated at a relatively low rate ($1). However, the person nominating has the option to start them in any amount they want. Then everyone else gets to swear about that player. The player goes to the team that bids the highest amount and this amount is deducted from the team’s budget. The auction continues until the next appointment and until the entire team is full.

Budgeting:
This is the hardest part. The problem is that it all depends on the personalities of the people in your league. If you have a league full of aggressive players, you will see the best players for the highest amount of money. At some point you will see a big drop and everyone will start going for $1-5. If you have a league full of conservative players, you will see everyone rated around the exit. Either way, my recommendation is to stick with “average price” players. This averages the sale price in every draft auction in this country, plus a few others (don’t really think Fantasy Football is big it’s in the US, have you had it?). He will be ahead of everyone in the draft and will have great influence in spending. If you really want a player, bid $10 around the middle price and you’ll probably get them.

On the plan:
I couldn’t do this without an Excel spreadsheet. Look at the ones on the right. I have added all the spots on my list, and the precepts that I intend to spend on them. The differentials account for what I wanted to pay for what I did. Let’s say I worked out $50 from QB for $48. Now I have $2 to reallocate elsewhere. By alternating the amounts in the “actual” column and writing in the names of the players as you connect them, you will always have a good idea of how much you can spend on each player. I spend my resources constantly re-budgeting, but I’m the only manager who knows exactly how much I can spend. in each place at all times. I am also the only manager who knows who will be available before the draft begins. Because I know what the players are going for and how to budget so, the ability to easily change on the fly.

Implementation:
I recently put 4 of my 5 leagues down for auction and frankly this is the only way to go. You need to be able to separate the real players from the fake ones by looking at your book. Nothing beats preparation and great planning at a draft auction. If you have any questions about my expansion, let me know. And let me know if you want me to send it to you on the net as well. Of course I will only send you if you are not in one of my leagues.
