Need an Internet Explorer Icon Fix?
Sometimes Internet Explorer will not display your favorite Internet Explore icons, and revert to the old generic icons. These missing graphics, look like a small white box or a formal generic Internet Explore icon.
The simplest fix for this is to make sure Internet Explorer is set as your default browser. In your browser, go to Internet Explorer Options, and click the Programs tab. Click the button to make Internet Explorer is your default browser and put a check mark next to “Tell me if the Internet Explorer is not your default browser.” This will generic icons in the future. Meanwhile let’s look at customizing your Internet Explorer favorite icons.
Most websites will have their own customized Internet Explorer Icon. Try it. Drag Associated Content icon in your address bar onto your browser’s favorite links, or bookmark it. You will see the customized AC Internet Explorer icon that represents their company logo. If you have added Associated Content to your favorite links or bookmarked them, this is known as your favorite icon. Eventually, these icons disappear. We have had the proper icons there before, so what happened, and what can we do to fix this?
Customized IE Favorite icons revert to generic icons because over time, your system undergoes changes and these changes override the previous settings. For instance, when you install programs, updates, or patches on your windows operating system, these old tailored icons revert to the original Internet Explorer icons because the icons erased the Internet Explorer cache. This also happens if you have a windows or internet Explore cleaners that wipe tracks and windows settings. Such programs good a great job to erase tracks and fix your computer, but there are tracks and settings that you do not want to change. The Internet Explorer icon, belonging to your favorites, is one of them.
Before buying, trying, or using a new program such as Windows Live One Care or CCleaner, be sure you understand its use and changes it will make to your computer. Most of those changes are good for your computer, bringing it up to speed and improve performance. However, if you want speed in your computer, you’re going to appreciate speed in productivity, which includes less computer maintenance. If you’re going to spend time figuring out unintended changes to you system and rely on system restore, it will not do much for you in the end.
Temporary directories save your icon files, and as the cache clears out- by either modified programs or internet cache cleaners– the Internet Explorer icons clear as well. The best way fix this is to copy the icon files (.ico) to another directory, such as your Window’s My Pictures folder, and re-linking the bookmark to the new icon file.
Here are the systematic directions to fix your favorite Internet Explorer Icons.
Go to Tools on Internet Explorer.
Choose Internet Options
Go to the Settings button
View Files button
Right click on “favicon” in the list
Save the icon in you’re My Pictures folder (or anyplace that you know where you saved them)
Right click for Properties on your bookmark or favorites.
Click Change Icon button.
Choose Browse.
Click on the icon or picture that you want to appear.
This should fix it. This is also a great way to customize your favorite Internet Explorer icons with a picture. For instance, if you want to change Associated Content Internet Explorer icon to a silly smiley face instead of their custom logo, feel free. It is your computer, have fun with it.
