How to Get the Most Out of Your Baby Photography Shoot

My husband and I had the pleasure of working with a fantastic photographer for us as a newborn and six month old baby boy. The photos were beautiful every day, but I’m happier with the semester plan, and I think that’s because I took a more active role in the planning and execution of the photo shoots. If you are thinking of having your pictures bay with a professional photographer, consider the following three tips I have. I learned from experience.

What you want to know

Going into a photo shoot knowing what you want as the final result: formal or candid, it is necessary to have ideal works and locations. Focus on looking at other people’s photos and make a note of what you’d like to replicate. Choose comfortable clothes that best bring out your childish features when you combine them with your clothes (if you’re also going to be in the pictures), or complement the overall feel of the shoot. Choose a location that is scenic or special for your family. Collect fun and creative props. Preparation is the key; coming up with ideas “on the fly” may seem to work at the time, but you may regret some missed opportunities or rushed decisions.

share ideas

There is no way to meet your goals if you don’t articulate them. As much as possible, share your ideas ahead of time. E-mail or send your photo to make sure you’re on the same page about your desired outcome. I made a Pinterest board for my photographer, which she printed and took with her. If you can’t get in touch with your photographer ahead of time, bring an album or some photos for example. Communication doesn’t have to stop before the photo shoot begins, either. Talk in the photo hoe if you want to try the idea or if it looks like something out of the way.

Advocate for your child

You know your baby better than anyone and you could ask for eye contact and a smile. Help the photographer with silly sounds and expressions that tickle the baby’s funny face. Pay attention to baby’s schedule when setting up the schedule and make sure she has everything she needs for sleep and food. so you can focus on looking cute. As usual, keep an eye on baby safety and comfort. Because the photographer takes pictures of babies, he doesn’t want to have to remember to bring the baby into the shade once in a while, to keep her from rolling over if she’s not yet sitting by herself, or diaper that needs to be changed.
