Many of us run away as fast as we can when it comes to buying certain types of clothing. The clothing that I am talking is the delicate type of clothing or the ones that need to be dry cleaned only. We shy away because we know that it can cost a pretty penny to keep these clothes looking nice. Today I would like to share with you how you can wash and take care of cashmere. Cashmere is something that all of would like to purchase but we are not sure that we should. With the instructions that I am going to give to you today you no longer have to worry about whether to purchase it or not.
The first thing that you are going to want to do is to purchase a detergent that is made especially for delicate fabrics. Make sure that it says on the bottle that it can be used to wash cashmere. These detergents can be purchased right in your grocery store. They will state on the bottle that they are made just for delicate washing. The next step that you will take to wash your cashmere sweater will be to fill your sink with lukewarm or cool water. Look at the label on your sweater and see what the washing instructions state as far as the temperature of the water goes. Do not make the water hot. You do not want to shrink your sweater. Once you have the right temperature of water you are going to add your detergent. Swirl the detergent and water around with your hand until there are some suds. Make sure that there is no residue anywhere in the water. You do not want it to stick to your sweater.
When you are happy with the amount of suds in your water you are going to submerge your sweater. Begin gently hand washing your cashmere sweater by making sure that the suds run through the garment. When you have finished hand washing your sweater you can let it soak in the water for about 20-25 minutes. After it has completed soaking you can drain the water. Turn your faucet on with lukewarm water and begin rinsing your garment. Continue rinsing until you do not see any more soap coming out.
When you are ready to dry your sweater you can gently press the water out it. Try to get as much water out as possible. At this point you can get a towel. Lay your sweater on the towel and make sure that the sweater is lying flat. Begin rolling the towel with the sweater from the bottom and press down on the towel with your palms. This will remove more moisture. When you are finished doing this unroll the towel and start shaping your sweater. Make sure that it is back in its original shape. Get a dry towel and place your sweater on it. You are going to let it air dry.
This is a great way to save a lot of money on your dry cleaning bill. Now you can buy those delicate fabrics that you have always wanted to purchase. The fabrics will also last longer this way too. I also know with practice you will get better and better about knowing which fabrics can be washed and which ones should be dry cleaned. Have fun with your new purchases.
