Have you ever tried to figure out a theme for a birthday party for your teenager or even a close friend? Everyone has had the trouble in finding a theme for a party at least once. A murder theme party is a great way to get the creativity juices flowing at a party.
But how do you host a murder party? Simple. During the planning process a list of clues, characters, crime scenes and so forth need to be discussed. In this article I will give you sample lists of how the lists and planning should go.
A murder theme party isn’t as gruesome as one would think. Its an actual fun and great way to get your guests thinking and how to be creative. Let your mind wonder about the possibilities of the murder theme party.
A murder isn’t a game to be playing with. But a murder theme party can open the doors for the creativity to be explored. A murder theme party is a party you can explore every aspect of the subject without having to be charged with murder or have someone die.
This is one fun way to explore what really goes on in the criminal mind as well as the investigators investigating.
The first step in planning a murder theme party you must decide where the crime scene took place and many murders have taken place.
Example Crime Scene: A hotel room.
With that any mind you can further plan out the party. Knowing the whereabouts of the crime scene, the clues will be easier to understand and figure out who the killer is.
What clues are best fitted for this particular murder theme party?
Example Clues:
Diary. A diary of the murder victim will clue you in on what lifestyle the victim lived and most enjoyed. The feelings and emotions of the victim will be on display for the party guests to figure out.
Hotel Key. Why a hotel Key? This key is the key to the murder victim’s room.
Weapon. The weapon in this case is a medical syringe. The medical syringe is laying on the table.
No other clues are found. The clues should be given to each guest two weeks in advance. Why? Each guest of the party can figure out on their own who exactly did the crime. But no discussion between the person hosting the party and the guests. Not until the party itself.
What is the reason for the character list? It gives each guest an insight of the lives surrounding the crime and the victim. Remind each guest that the killer will be found among the character list. The diary itself will not be given to the guests but a passage or two of the diary itself will be allowed for viewing to each one.
Note: Keep in mind that each character needs to be in relevant to murder case at hand and the victim.
An example Character List:
Emily Carswell. A 34 year old art dealer. She was raised in White Plains, New York by her father John Carswell. Emily was told at an early age that her mother had died from aneurism when she was just a year old. She went to the University of New York, majoring in Art History. On completion of college she obtained a job with an art auction house. She traveled the world dealing in art antiques. Emily was still employed there at the time of her death. She was involved with a Bailey Meyers. A married man.
Bailey Meyers . A 56 year old who owns an art gallery. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois with his parents Robert and Debra Meyers. At the age of 55 he married Hannah Hansman. She was 28 years old. After three years of marriage they are still married even though he is messing around with Emily Carswell.
Hannah Meyers. He is a 31 year old housewife. At the age of 28 she and Bailey Meyers exchanged their vows. Three years of marriage they are still together. Bailey began a relationship with Emily Carswell. For the past year they have been living in Kentucky.
Leslie Gates. A 26 year old painter. A painting of hers was forged by Emily Carswell and Bailey Meyers. The painting was called, “The days of Twilight.” There wasn’t any prove to say Bailey and Emily forged the painting. Her father Chris Gates is in a mental hospital. Leslie’s mother Susan ran off when she was a toddler. Leaving her and her older brother Timmy living with their mother’s parents. She was raised in Dayton, Ohio.
Julie Winters. A 45 year old woman moved to Florence, Kentucky. Her background is unknown.
Reminder: Remember to bring all clues to the date of the party.
An example Diary entry:
Dear Diary,
I am Emily Carswell. I have been receiving threatening phone calls. I am uncertain to the identity of the voice. But I do fear for my life. I have become involved with a married man, Bailey Meyers. He and I began to forge paintings of a Leslie Gates, a local painter. The threatening phone calls began shortly after the first forgery. I am not proud of what I have become but I am terrified for my life. I only forged only two paintings, after that the threatening phone calls began. I stopped after that and I stopped the relationship with Bailey Meyers as well. I am scared. If you are reading this diary, then I am already dead. Help me find my killer.
At the party the entire diary will be read to the guests. At the last passage of the diary the killer will be revealed. But before the last passage is read them they will have a chance to have a guess at the identity of the killer.
If no one guesses who it is, then the last passage is read and the answer is revealed.
Party foods. What party favors would be good to have at such a theme party? The cake itself can be the designed into the shape of the murder weapon. Or it can have a design in sequence with the theme. Potato chips, dip, cookies, ice cream, and etc.
Party Favors. A baggie full of treats can be handed out to each guest. But what can be in the baggies? Anything. It will determine who the party is for. If it is for a teenager, more appropriate party favors will be in order. For example: jewelry, makeup, fake tattoos and etc.
Why would any choose a murder mystery party? It gives the guests an opportunity to solve the case. It gets their creativity juices flowing. Who doesn’t love to become involved with a case and try to bring justice to the victims family and friends? The answer is everyone.
Is there enough evidence to solve the example murder above? No. But at your party the murder will either be solved or not. That is up to you. Just keep in mind all evidence in a crime will either lead to being solved or unresolved. Do not let the case be solved too quickly or without mystery of twists.
Why? If the case is solved too quickly for the party, it won’t be as fun or creative. This is one themed party your guests will not forget. This theme party will be a great success. Have a great time planning the party and remember have fun.
