I know I have to worry about my boyfriends all day if I ever leave them at work. There is too much danger out there. So how do you keep yourself happy with the smartest animal in captivity?
Ferrets love pipes, obsessively to the point. Can you manage to put some Tubing in their cage? These are not supposed to be Super Pet tubes, although they are great if you have a Super Pet cage. You can cut lengths of dryer hose and tie them to the cage with some rope or wire. Our ferrets’ cage is now set up as the top level of the cage (which is covered with a heavy blanket to provide . a dark nesting spot) it is only accessible through an 8-foot length of tube that winds around to the next-to-top level.
I use wire or thin wire (don’t check too often because the ferrets aren’t chewing on it) to secure the tube up high and move it around the corners so it stays in place.
And this idea brings me to another idea for enriching the cage. There are many varieties of bedding available for ferrets. Different shapes, different textures, different thicknesses, different brands, etc., all make for variety. Our burners have t-shirts in one section, old shirts in the other, silk fleece, thick berber pillows, not to not to mention hammocks made of fleece and lamb, flat hammocks and bent hammocks, a basket with snuggly layers in it, and two of these hammocks at PetCo, one caterpillar and one lobster. Sometimes I would find all four of them in the hammocks, and at other times one in the catepillar, one wrapped in a fleece blanket, one stretched out in a berber, and another curled up in a basket.
Another trick is to hide food in the cage. You can use one of the specially designed balls that dispenses small hole treats when the ferrets roll around. I try and make sure that some of the toys I put in the cage are at a full level so he can’t slide down to the litter box. Fill the ball with some of their regular food (you can put some ferrets in a separate container with their treats, and let the ribble smell of the treats), and the ferrets food combinations (mine includes Whole Ferret, Yams Kitten, Eukanuba Kitten and Nutromax Cream ), one You can only fill the bowl with food. And if you’re lazy, you can always sprinkle a few things in the bed and find the pipes.
If your cell likes Cheweasels, you can secure one cage to the side using a metal ring. They are probably pulling and pulling at her, trying to bring her to an unattractive hiding spot. Some other toys should be given out of the cage, but very carefully. Some ferrets are fine with those types of things, but others are not. I found a few toys from the bird section in the petstore (avoid anything they might chew on a piece); and I also use some McDonald’s Happy Meal toys – stuffed keychain size Furbies and Winnie the Pooh characters with plastic hooks. My yeasts are very sure about stuffed animals, although yours may not be. Until you’re sure, stuff your stuff every day.. and even when you’re sure, still check them frequently. The Super Pet toy does that has a bell inside and hangs from the top of the cage, dispensing treats.
It is the key to keeping your hat happy and “rich” to keep the changeable. By moving the bedding from one floor to another, the bedding is rotated, and the frequent washing of the bed gives the appearance of novelty. If your ferrets like to click toys, they will scratch the holes every now and then and put all their toys away. in one place to be hidden again. If they are used in water bottle at one level, move to another. If the dark spots are always on top, see if you can make it another panel instead. Be creative. Working to keep your ferrets actively interested in things while they are indoors not only helps but makes you feel less guilty about being careless with the necessities.
