The salon will charge you crazy amounts of money to “color correct” your hair, but with some forethought and common sense, you can lift the dark dye enough to recolor your hair.
The longer you dye your hair black, the harder it will be to strip the black color from your hair. It is important that you do not have unrealistic expectations of the withdrawal process. You won’t be able to remove hair from black to white in one treatment, but eventually it can be done if this is the goal. You may want to have a big hat or scarf wrap your head between treatments though because the hair fall looks a little wacky.
The best way to start is to choose the day you want to start the process. They collect at least one day a week. Make an appointment with your hair stylist and have the bottom 2-3 inches of your black hair cut off. The day you are ready to bleach, you need to stock up on a few items from your beauty supply. Go to a beauty supply store, like Sally Beauty Supply, they won’t have these at the drugstore. Here’s a shopping list to get the beauty supply:
Bleaching kit like manic Panic Flash Kit Ignite Kit Jerome Russell Bleach Kit – Make it infected You get a kit that uses a level 40 developer. You don’t work at 30, you need 40.
They are the most convenient kit because they usually come with gloves and a brush but if you need it you can buy a pack of bleach and a bottle of 40 degree cleaner if they don’t have a kit. If you have light or pastel hair, you need 2 white shades.
Latex or Rubber Gloves – You will only need more than one pair that comes with the kit so buy a package that has more pairs.
Small plastic bowls- These will have white and then head color.
Tunt brush- as a few
Process caps- come in a pack of 3 or 4 for about $1. You will go through the file to get two files.
Hair clips- You will need these to make sure you apply all the dye and bleach evenly.
Toner and new hair colors- If you want to change your hair color from black to a much lighter color, you will need to bleach your hair, then tone it, then recolor it. Horror Man makes a great white toner called Snow White that has a nice iridescent quality. to it. If you don’t want to dye your hair a much lighter color, you can skip the toner, but you should get at least one bottle of the new color.
