Japanese Geisha Wig Materials:
Purchase a long black wig that hangs pass your shoulders. A few packages of black weave hair and weave glue could also be used as a substitute to make a Japanese Geisha Wig. However, the weave hair may cost more and take additional time to complete. You will also need to purchase a small black hair band or scrunchie and one wig cap. Make sure to also get a package of black hair pins or bobby pins to make a Japanese Geisha Wig. The hair pins could also be substituted for an additional black hair scrunchie depending on your comfort level and preference.
A scrunchie should only be used as a last resort if you want to make a Japanese Geisha wig that is more authentic. Hair pins will help to keep the hair secure for your Japanese Geisha wig style. Decorative Japanese hair pins, clips, flowers or ribbon could also be purchased to use when making a Geisha wig. However, these decorative aspects are optional and not required to make a Japanese Geisha hair style. Decorative Japanese hair accessories can be helpful if you also plan on wearing a Geisha Costume.
Japanese Geisha Wig Instructions: Style your hair into cornrow braids or wrap it around your head using a few bobby pins. Put the wig cap on your head and follow with the long black wig. Place the scrunchie on your wig and proceed to make a loose ponytail hairstyle. There should be enough hair in front of the scrunchie to hand over your head. Ideally, the scrunchie would be located near the back of your neck and not the top of your head. Grab the scrunchie and pull it up over the top middle section of your head.
Push the scrunchie down until it meets that section of your head. This should cause all of the surrounding hair to fold over your face and back of your neck, creating a mushroom looking style. Using bobby pins, secure the hair in place in a circular motion surrounding the scrunchie. This helps to keep the mushroom look in place for your Japanese Geisha wig. Now, the scrunchie should be located at or near the top middle section of your head.
Wrap the loose hair that is hanging down your back around the srunchie using hair pins. When finished, your scrunchie should not be visible because it’s covered with hair to make a Japanese Geisha wig. Weave hair is applied differently to make a Japanese Geisha wig. Instead of adding a wig, glue the weave tracks to the edges of your wig cap. Once you have covered all of the edges, follow the previous wig instructions starting with your scrunchie.
Decorative Geisha Wig Options: Once you finished the process to make a Japanese Geisha wig, decorate it with your optional materials. Place flowers on the side of your bun, securing them with hair pins. Add the Japanese hair sticks or pins by sliding them through the bun on each side, forming an “X” style.
