Decorating a nursery can be a daunting task and it may be hard to decide on a theme, especially when you do not know the sex of your soon arriving baby. A jungle theme room is a theme that can be easily made either masculine or feminine with only slight modifications. The process of making a jungle theme room can be done easily and with little expense.
Choose and Purchase paint colors-
The first part to making a jungle theme room is the painting. First you need to find out how much paint you will need for all four walls of your room. You can always start out with one gallon and keep the color sample in case you need more. The beige color displayed in the pictures is a medium color beige. You can choose the shade of beige when you look at the samples at the store. Purchase at least one gallon of the beige because you are going to paint the whole room with the beige color you choose. Next you will pick out the color green you will want. The green displayed in the picture is more of a forest green color. You can choose the color green that you prefer. Purchase at least one quart of the green because you are going to paint the bottom half of all four walls with the green. It is best to hold the beige and green together so you will know what they look like when you paint them together.
Paint-
Start by painting all four walls with the chosen color beige. If there is already color on the wall you may need to do more than one coat. You may use a regular roller to paint. Let the paint dry for a day or two. Once the room is dry take a ruler and a pencil and decide how high you want to paint the green. The line in the displayed room is slightly lower than the light switches. Start at the door and use the ruler to draw a straight line horizontally along the wall. Draw the line across all four walls. Using a rag roller gently roll the green paint in random directions and do not go completely to the line you drew in the middle of the wall. Do this to the bottom half of all four walls. Let this dry for a day or two. The room is done being painted!
Separate the bottom and top half-
After painting you can either use a wooden border or the vine border which is displayed in the picture. The wooden border may need to be stained to the desired color and will need to be measured and cut to fit each wall. This may take more time and is more expensive. The Vine border used was bought from the dollar store and you can just keep adding more vines when one ends. Start at the door and use medium size nails to hammer the vine onto the wall. Keep the vine even with the drawn line on the wall. The leaves on the vine will make the nails unnoticeable. Do this until you do all four walls. (Note: to make more feminine you may also use flowers from the dollar store and add them into various places on the vines.)
Buy or make curtains-
You can buy either green, beige or brown curtains to decorate the room. You can also buy material to make your own curtains. The curtains in the displayed room were made and the material was purchased from the craft section of Walmart. (Note: to make more feminine I added a sheer green color material to the brown curtain and used flowers from the dollar store to put in the sheer material at the top of the curtains.
Put pictures and decorations-
You can purchase pictures of baby jungle animals to put on the wall to decorate or put picture frames. Baby animal tapestries or buying inexpensive stuffed jungle animals so that you can decorate the room or you can hang small stuffed monkeys from the ceiling to add dimension. There are also decals of jungle animals that can be easily placed and removed from the wall. A good place to purchase these types of things is Target.
Place Furniture-
Your nursery is almost complete! Just add the crib, changing table, dresser and any other furniture you would like. The furniture displayed is espresso color and Graco brand purchased from Target.
The room can be neutral or you can add flowers and other girlie decorations to make the room more feminine. Also remember when buying animal decorations make sure they are friendly looking animals and not scary looking.
