Peek-a-boo shower curtains are the type that are clear and seemingly show the viewer everything behind the curtain, but in reality, there’s a picture of a beautiful-bodied person drawn onto the curtain. The curtains are easy to make but you must have a large space to work. The floor or a very long table is perfect.
The first thing you will need is a clear shower curtain. They are inexpensive and found anywhere that shower curtains are sold. You’ll also need a very poster of someone with a beautiful body. Lay the curtain, right side down on the floor, then position the poster in the center. Tape into place. Make sure that wrinkles are completely gone. If there are wrinkles present try putting the curtain in a warm dryer for a couple of minutes. Flip the curtain over so that you can trace the image.
The painting should be done on the inside of the curtain because, if you paint it on the outside of the curtain, it will look painted. Paint it on the inside, instead, then use a shower liner between yourself and the painted curtain. Without the shower liner, anyone who walks into the bathroom will see the painted picture and you as well, because the painted curtain is clear.
Fabric paints are great because they are waterproof and easy to use. They come in a tube for outlining or squirt some onto a pallet to paint large places. There are other paints suitable for this project; just read to make sure that the paints will adhere to plastics. To prevent brush strokes use foam brushes for large areas.
Outline the image in the colors shown on the poster and allow the outlines to dry. Paint the image from the poster onto the shower curtain, allow to dry, and paint once again. The trick to painting the large surface is to work from the top down, rather than doing all of one color first.
Another way to make the peek-a-boo curtain, particularly if you’re not great with paints, is to make a silhouette image. A silhouette is a dark image with no detail. You can still use the poster, to get the proper outline, or simply draw an outline of a buff bod on the curtain. Use a clear curtain with black or flesh-colored paint. Some fabric stores have cloth with large “people” images on them. Cut out the image and sew it directly onto the curtain or use fabric glue to attach it to the plastic curtain.
The curtains can be made into great gag gifts as well. If you know someone who has a nice body you can paint a curtain with a hideously overweight person on it. Or, paint a very old body onto the curtain to give to someone young. There are many images you can put on the curtain. If the shower curtain covers a tub too, you can make an image of someone sitting in the tub with a backscratcher and their knees sticking up above the tub rim. The image can even be something way off-the-wall like a pack of dogs or the three bears of Goldlilocks fame. The curtains are fun and easy and will add a touch of humor to your own bathroom or someone else’s.
