How to Make an Easy Kid’s Angry Birds Costume

With two young boys, there’s always a new obsession, from trains to trucks to the latest craze – Angry Birds. With Halloween around the corner, my son wanted an Angry Birds costume this year. But knowing how easily kids can change their minds, I decided to go the cheap and easy route, rather than spending 40-$50 for kids clothing online< Cheap, adorable, and incredibly easy costumes I've decided to make for the rest of our family (we're all obsessed with Angry Birds at playtime): Materials required:

– Two medium-to-large pieces of heavy cardboard
– heavy duty scissors or utility knife
– lead
acrylic paints
painting supplies
– straps: suspenders, lace, braid, or texture (and adhesive)

How do angry birds make clothes:

1. Use the internet or your angry birds reference games, and draw your angry birds characters on one side; of cardboard My children chose the green pig and the blue bird.

2. Cut out the character using scissors or a utility knife. Make sure your character is kid-sized, have your child figure it out in front of them, then reduce the size if needed.

3. Place the shape on the other side of the paper, then follow and cut out the second same shape.

4. Look at your image, then mix acrylic painting to match the color of your angry bird (we mix pale blue instead our blue bird, and green mint for our pig). Paint one side of each piece of cardboard. Make sure to paint the front of one and the back of the other, which will look like a sandwich board.

5. When dry, look at your reference image, then draw your face into the Angry Birds character. This should be easy, as they look relatively small. Decide if you want to paint the front and back, or just the front. Mix colors, draw faces in each shape. Paint a black outline around the edges of each shape.

6. When dry, fix the straps to stop your figures. Try the easy way – attach hangers to the tops of both pieces, which you then put across your kids’ shoulders. Or, for a different look, stick ribbon, braid or fabric strips between the two pieces of cardboard, leaving a gap for the shoulders. Heavy tape, hot glue, or other adhesives can be used.

Since I was low on time and resources, and wanted to make something simple that was easy to cut out, I decided to make this simple cardboard sandwich-board ornament. Under the dress, kids can have a color coordinated outfit (like black pants and a blue shirt).

While it would be fancy, the fabric would be nice, I didn’t want to invest in a price or labor intensive kids costume that wouldn’t last all Halloween night. With this style I found a way to create my kids Angry Birds costumes while spending $0 and in hardly any time.
