How to Make Free Custom Ringtones for Cell Phones from YouTube with Myxer

Custom ringtones are great and everyone likes a ringtone that expresses their personality. I like to change mine to represent favorite shows and things that are funny or recognizable by friends or family. We love Survivor and here is how I made a custom ringtone from YouTube with a MP3 converter and Myxer for my own Survivor themed custom ringtone.

Find a Song or Sound Clip on YouTube

YouTube is a great source for funny, musical or other sound clips to make a custom ringtone from their favorite movies or TV shows. Find a clip you like and make sure the sound quality is good and that it’s the actual clip you want and not an edited version. Don’t waste time with the wrong clips. When you are happy with the clip, right click on the URL at the top of your screen and copy the link.

Find a YouTube to MP3 Converter – FLVTO.com

There are plenty of free conversion tools online. Most smart phones have an MP3 player and MP3 format is the most common sound file format used today, but you may need a different format like AAC used in Apple products. For YouTube videos we like FLVTO.com a free online YouTube to MP3 converter. On the main page you will see an orange box. Right click in the box and paste the YouTube link then hit “convert to MP3. Save this file to your computer.

Go to Myxer.com

Myxer.com is another great free website that allows you to download and customize ringtones to phones and other devices. You have to create an account first, which only takes a minute, then select the ringtones tab under tools and find “Make your Own”. This page allows you to browse for sound files on your computer. If you didn’t select to save your file under music or a different folder, you probably will find it by selecting the “Start Menu” then “computer”. Top left of page under “Favorites” is “Downloads” where most new downloads are filed. Select file and hit “upload” file to Myxer.com.

Your song will open in the edit menu, where you can customize the length or choose specific parts to play. Edit a favorite sound clip and hit “Continue”. Confirm the text message and Myxer sends a text with a link to your cell phone.

Save the Sound File to Your Cell Phone

We recently bought smart phones through Wal-Mart’s Straight Talk cellular plan, saving us a ton with no-contract unlimited cellular plans. Like most smart phones we get an alert when we receive the text link with the ringtone, which may take a few minutes depending how busy the Myxer website is. Open the link to Myxer’s site and download the custom ringtone. Non smart phones will normally download straight to the phone. Look for your custom ringtone under the phones music player. Last, go to phone settings and select your new ringtone. Here is a video of this process below.
