In my previous article I wrote about making your own job.
One type of job was selling things. This article is about selling used things.
To succeed in selling used items you should know the right way to present the items. You should know the right place to market the items.
I have personal experience in making approximately $200 in selling items on Craigslist, with very much effort.
I post items in general and in specific areas. Responses are better in specific postings.
I have sold a guitar, a fishing pole, a cell phone chairs, Videos(VHS) VCRs, used books, among many other things on Craigslist. I am currently in process of selling beach towels. There is also a provision to barter/trade. I am trading some items for a Karate Gi.
If you go on Craigslist search for sale items in Daytona Beach section you will see some items I posted for sale there.
First step is know what to sell and where to post. Best to post and sell in local area.
Go on the site and see what is for sale and see how the postings are written. Simple and direct is my approach. It has worked for me.
General or Niche
I have direct experience in success selling used items on Craigslist and Flea Markets.
There are two types of selling categories, General and Niche. On Craigslist there are options to post in general or specific to sell items.
GENERAL:
This is for the online yard sale type posting. The Online, Craigslist, way of posting for General Items is easy. Once you get to the Craigslist site for the area you are interested in, primarily the city closest to you. ( I will post an article on how to use Craigslist another time), You can click in the upper left corner for post an item. then follow the instructions.
There will be a page with sections to put information in. Put in the item or items and the location in the top section. In the larger section you type in the items for sale with the price for the items.
This way is easy because you put all the items to sell in the section with the prices. It is a good idea to include a contact number for interested customers to call you.
After posting you can upload pictures of the items. For General items take picture of several items together in one photo. There is only allowance for 4 photos on Craigslist. Bunching items in one photo maximizes your items.
NICHE:
Niche or specific items should be posted in specific sections such as automobiles(cars) or auto parts, or electronics, videos, cd’s furniture, or tools. The specific items should be posted in the specific areas to attract customers looking for specific items. They look in those specific areas. Each item sold in a specific category should have the name of the item at the top line with and at least a sentence or several sentences describing the items, the condition, quality, and specific details such as brand name.
Keep the description brief No more than 3 to 4 lines of writing. Too many words turn people away.
Always include at least one picture of the item you are selling. Craigslist allows a maximum of 4 photo per item. Be sure to include a telephone number or way to contact. Postings with pictures and direct contact information such as telephone number or email get better responses.
As I mentioned in the previous posting, BE READY to NEGOTIATE YOUR Price. The bargain shoppers seek bargains on prices. Be ready to go down on prices.
MULTIPLE LISTINGS
More items posted will get more potential sales. Post more than one specific item. You can also post one specific item in multiple categories.
Use different methods I made my $200 through both general section with list of items and in specific.
FOLLOWING POSTING INSTRUCTIONS
When you start the posting process there are the tedious parts to input information. One step at a time and it will be over quickly. After posting there are some more clicking and instructions to follow.
ACCOUNT
You can also set up an account on Craigslist The benefit for that is you enter information one time with email information then post items to sell. You can go to the account page and renew or re-post your items in much shorter time than starting over each time.
