How to Make Your Own Face Cream

Making your own skin cream is not difficult or time consuming. Aside from the super expensive (and overly hyped) department store skin creams, manufactured skin creams can be far superior, both in quality and effectiveness, to any over-the-counter purchase. In addition, the ingredients that are added are fresh, all natural, and can vary from skin type.

Basic “au naturel” skin cream consists of the following four ingredients: mixed oils, wax, coconut/cocoa butter and seed extract . Mixed oils hydrate and cleanse the skin exposed by washing, cleansing as sodium dodecyl. sulfate (SDS) and sodium sulfate (SLS). Beeswax forms a protection against the elements, such as sun and wind. Cocoa or cocoa butter is a more viscous, solid substance, and provides the base for the cream itself. Grapefruit grapeseed extract is a natural antibiotic, a preservative against mold and other life-hungry forms.

There is a great variety in the creams that are used to make facial creams. To find out which perfumes work best for your skin type, I recommend going to a local health food store and trying small samples of perfumes into your skin Ideally, the oil should “take” and be absorbed by your skin without leaving an overly greasy residue. Dry skin generally prefer the following oils: avocado oil (also good for sensibility and older skin); sesame oil (natural sunscreen), peanut oil, and Shea butter (natural sunscreen). Skin oils the following types of oil will be preferred: jojoba oil (a liquid wax and less greasy than most oils) and grapeseed oil ( dry oil). Wheat germ oil is high in many vitamins and minerals, and is therefore recommended for all skin types.

Although optional, queen bee royal jelly and essential oils can also be added to the cream. Royal jelly has antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties, and is packed with rare vitamins and minerals that can promote revitalization and longevity, not only for the queen bee, but also for your skin. Essential oils are the scents of oils from plants such as rose, lavender, etc. They can be added simply by smell. cream

Once you have gathered your ingredients, use this recipe:

2.5 oz of oil or perfume
1.5 oz coconut/coconut butter
0.5 oz of wax
4 oz. boiled / purified water
30 drops of grapefruit seed extract
0.5 oz royal jelly (optional)
4-5 drops of essential oil or oils (optional, and can be changed for a stronger/weaker scent)

It also needs a double boiler, and either a hand or electric mixer.

To preserve the cleanliness of the cream as long as possible is vital in the actual product preparation. So before doing any actual mixing, pre-wash and dry all your utensils, especially the metal parts of your mixer. This is also the reason why distilled/filtered water is recommended in the recipe, as opposed to regular (and possibly bacteria-infested) water.

Now that everything is clean, put a pot of water on the stove and heat until the water is almost boiling. Then place another pot or pan in the water, being careful not to get any of the hot water in in this second pot. When all this is established, the mixed oils and wax are combined in a “double boiler”, allowing the ingredients to melt while stirring occasionally (about 10-15 minutes). Remove the melted oils and wax from the double boiler and slowly add in the boiled/purified water. Mix by hand or an electric mixer until the water is distributed throughout the cream. Of course, the cream, thoroughly cooled, will now stir into fruit seed extract, royal jelly, and essential oils. Be careful not to add more essential oil than necessary, as this will make the cream runny. This recipe makes about 8 ounces of ice cream and takes about 25 minutes.

Ice cream ice cream should be condensed in glasses/plastics with screw top lids and should keep at least 4 months If you see any bacteria in it, throw it away. Obviously, the cream is very nourishing, not only for the skin, but also for other critters.
