Recently I was in New York and wanted to reach a hotel near by Newark International Airport from LaGuardia Airport at night 11:30 PM with my family. Before reaching to New York I was trying to get all possible information about to travel this distance. There were few things I considered for travel. Those things are cost of this travel (what is the cheapest route to follow?), traveling with nine months old baby and sixty years old mom and wife (what is the shortest route to travel with family?) and the time of the day (the travel time was late night). I tried to find the answer from various websites, forums and Yahoo answers. Thanks everyone for your help and guidance. Here are the few options you can look for.
ETS Air Shuttle – This could be the best option to reach Newark Airport from LaGuardia Airport. The cost of this shuttle is $32.00 for one person, $55.00 for two persons and $70 for three persons and $15 per person thereafter. As we were three adult persons it could cost $70 for this trip. From ground transportation of LaGuardia Airport the ETS shuttle depart on every hour. You can make early reservation by calling them or from their website. The main disadvantage of this transportation is this is only available from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM. So it was impossible for me as I reached LaGuardia at night 11:30 PM. Newark Airport Express Bus – This is another way to reach Newark International Airport from LaGuardia Airport. From LaGuardia airport ground transportation you can avail New York Airport Service Express Bus, which departs in every 30 to 45 minutes. New York Airport Service Express Bus will help you to reach New York Grand Central terminal in Manhattan and from New York Grand Central you can connect to Newark Airport Express Bus services to EWR. Newark Airport Express Bus service is also available from Port Authority Bus Terminal in 42nd Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. The cost of New York Airport Service Express Bus service is $10 per person and the cost of Newark Airport Express Bus service is $12 per person. So, total $22 per person will the cost of this trip. From LaGuardia to Manhattan it will take 20 to 30 minutes and from Manhattan to Newark it will take 30 to 40 minutes. New York Airport Service Express Bus service is available from morning 7:20 AM to night 11:00 PM and Newark Airport Express Bus service is available from morning 5:00 AM to night 11:00 PM. These two bus service is available on every 30 to 45 minutes. The only bad thing is these services are good for day time; they don’t have late night or early morning service.
NJ Transit and Amtrak trains to Newark Liberty Airport – You can take New York Airport Service Express Bus to reach to New York Penn station/34th Street and from there you have to take NJ Transit or Amtrak trains Newark Liberty Airport station. If you want to reach inside the airport you have to take another air train. The air train inside the airport is little costly. The cost of New York Airport Service Express Bus is $10 per person and the cost of NJ Transit is $14 per person. NJ transit is for whole night and day service, but New York Airport Service Express Bus is up to 11:00 PM.
PATH Trains to Newark Penn Station – You can also take a taxi or bus to reach to World Trade Center PATH station and then take PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation) train to Newark Penn station. The cost of taxi to Manhattan from LaGuardia will be about $50 and the cost of PATH train to Newark is $1.50 per person. PATH train service is for 24X7. Super Shuttle – You can also take Super Shuttle to reach Newark Liberty International Airport from LaGuardia Airport. This option is little costly compare to all other services I mentioned earlier. One way cost of Super Shuttle from LaGuardia to Newark is about $150. Super Shuttle is cheap within New York City. This is the website of super shuttle – http://www.supershuttle.com.
Taxi – I guess this is the last option. If you have family and luggage with you and at mid-night then taxi will be the best option. It might cost little extra, but this will be hassle free. The taxi will cost at around $100 to $110. Here is the sample charges for a taxi: Taxi meter charge – $60 to $70, Toll charge (both way) – $10 to $15, additional surcharge – $15 and tips – $10 to $15. If you go inside of Newark Airport they will charge more $15 as Airport transportation charge. Considering my situation I took a taxi to reach Newark and the place was just outside of Newark Airport and I paid all total $105 for this trip.sss
