How to Use Recycled Shot Glasses for Your Home Decor

If you’ve quit drinking – and even if you never did drink – you can make some fabulous things from old shot glasses. If you don’t happen to have a collection of them, don’t worry, you can always pick them up for next-to-nothing at a yard sale or flea market.

It doesn’t matter what color the shot glass is, or what advertisement may be written on the side, you can still use it to make unique projects to display in your home. Many of the crafts can be made from things you have around the house or from a selection of inexpensive craft items.

If you like the look of the shot glass, there’s no need to cover it up, but if you prefer others not know that it’s a shot glass, it can be covered with cloth or other materials. Wrap a piece of cloth around the glass, and secure with anything from ribbon to a pretty hair tie. Fold the edges down, all the way around the cloth, before wrapping it around the glass so there’s no raw edges of fabric showing.

This little fabric-wrapped glass can become a miniature vase for flowers. Purchase small silk flowers and vines, then arrange them in the shot glass, and set on a shelf or in a window. You can make flower stems from pipe cleaners, large splinters of wood, or even tiny tree twigs. Glue the silk flowers on them and place them in the vase. Fill the shot glass full of tiny decorative rocks if you want.

A different project that’s easy to make from a shot glass shows off some of your favorite pictures. Cut pieces of tiny dowels and glue on small wooden shapes of stars, ovals or diamonds. Glue photos of your kids or pets onto the shapes, then place them in the shot glass. Fill the glass with marbles, rocks or other small, heavy objects. This photo display is easy and inexpensive to create.

There are many things you can use to cover the shot glass including cloth, fake jewels, foil, sand, glitter glue, rocks, sequin, buttons, or even stiff paper. Each of these craft items will give the shot glass a completely different look.

Decorated shot glasses can hold flowers, tiny craft balloons, holiday greeting signs, humorous signs, or even photos. All you have to do is imagine what you’d like to see in the shot glass, then make it happen, using various crafting supplies.

A shot glass can even be made into a pin cushion. Fill the glass with batting and then glue a piece of fabric over the batting. This pin cushion is unique and easy to make, using hot glue. Decorate the outside of the glass in any manner you wish. Use fabric to cover the outsides and you’ll have even more places to store pins and needles.

Make a cute little ring holder by starting with a shot glass. Just glue in a piece of fabric, tucking it into the inside of the glass, then bringing it up and over the rim of the glass. Use the fabric-covered glass to hold rings or even change. Place a spot of glue in the center bottom of the glass to secure the fabric.

Shot glasses can be made into all sorts of cute items to display in your home. Most of the crafts are simple and inexpensive to create. The craft items make great gifts for friends and family, too. If you have any shot glasses get busy making some nice small decor items for your home. Be forwarned: you’ll become addicted to making miniatures out of the shot glasses!
