I remember it was about fifteen years ago when I was applying for many jobs but I was never called for an interview. I was so disappointed. I thought I had the education and knowledge for the job but I didn’t understand why I didn’t get called until my friend informed me that an application just wasn’t enough to get my foot in the door. She told me that employers look at the application, resume and cover letter. So I thought I would give it a try. I asked my friend what I needed to put in the cover letter. The following are some essential suggestions on how to write a cover letter.
·At the top of the page have your name, address and phone number. This will give the employer easy access to who you are and how they can contact you.
·. or Mrs. along with their first and last name. This makes the letter formal and personal at the same time. A person is more likely to respond when their name is used versus to whom it may concern.
·In the first sentence state what position you are interested in working as along with the name of their organization.
·Share with the employer what degrees you have that maybe related to the position your applying for.
·.
·. Tell them you look forward in hearing from them.
·Sign off the letter with a sincerely and your full name.
·You can add a P.S. stating what is including in the cover letter such as a resume and job application.
·The letter should be typed and double-spaced. The font of the letter should be a 12 -14 font. This will make the words big enough to read and small enough to just be on one page. Also use a normal setting when typing your letter.
After using these suggestions I got my first call from an employer. I realized that a cover letter does make a difference in getting your foot in the door. I am going to end this article with an example of what a cover letter should look like.

Dear Mr. Kevin Sherman:
I am interested in working as a Counselor for the Mickey Social Services. I graduated
from Oscar State University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in
Marriage and Family Counseling. I have had counseling experience working for agencies
such as National Council On Freudian and Myers Dependence, Teenage Prevention and the
Mental Health Association. The last five years I have been working for the Goofy’s
Unified School District as a Preventionist in the elementary level. My main role has
been facilitating student support groups on areas such as anger management, self-
esteem and social skills. In addition to my interaction with the children, I have
increased my effectiveness by forming positive relationships with their parents or
guardians. I currently provide valuable resources and help them set achievable goals.
My education and experiences make me particularly qualified to work as a counselor at
