I have personally never cared for drinking milk. Unfortunately, since I have never really drank milk except for in my coffee in the mornings, this also meant that I was not getting the calcium that my body needed. For this reason, I was concerned about my calcium. As an adult woman, I have been told by my doctor that I need to have at least 1000 mg of calcium daily to keep my bones as strong as they need to be. Since I do not drink milk, I needed to figure out another way to get this calcium. Two of the options that I have come across to date are Viactiv chewable tablets and Coral Calcium. Here, I will tell you about each of these calcium options, as well as which one I preferred the most.
Viactiv is a calcium tablet in soft, chewable form. Each chewable tablet has 500 mg of pure calcium. Taking two of these Viactiv tablets each and every day, along with a diet that consists of little calcium, is all that you will need to do in order to get the calcium that you need to meet your daily calcium requirements. There are also six different available Viactiv flavors for you to choose from, which means that there is something that can suit just about anyone’s taste buds. The available flavors include milk chocolate, strawberry cream, chocolate mint, caramel, French vanilla, and raspberry. I thought that each of these flavors was good, though I did prefer milk chocolate the most. The fact that these chewy tablets taste good makes them all the more appealing to me. The tablets are chewy in texture, and they are also individually wrapped. You are not recommended to take any more than two Viactiv tablets a day.
The other option that I tried for my calcium needs was Coral Calcium. It has the same amount of mgs of calcium as Viactiv does. It is in capsule form, and it is recommended for you to only take one a day. Although Coral Calcium does provide you with the calcium benefits that you need, I found several things that I did not particularly care for when it comes to taking this pill. One of the first problems that I found is that, unlike many other types of capsules that I have taken, the Coral Calcium pill does have a very strong taste which I found hard to get adjusted to. Another one of the things that I really did not like about taking the Coral Calcium capsules is the fact that it did cause my stomach to become upset when I took it.
Both Viactiv and Coral Calcium are easy to purchase. You can find them at just about any vitamin store, as well as your local Wal-Mart or K-Mart. For a container that contains 60 soft chewable Viactiv tablets, you will spend about ten dollars, depending on where you purchase them from. For 120 Coral Calcium capsules, you will spend about the same amount of money. As you can see, cost-wise, you will be getting more for your money when you decide to opt for Coral Calcium rather than Viactiv chewable tablets.
I personally feel that both Coral Calcium capsules and Viactiv chewable calcium tablets are wonderful options for anyone who is not a big milk drinker, but like everyone else, still needs that calcium in their diets. However, I personally find Viactiv to be the choice for me. Since they are such good-tasting chewable tablets, it feels more like eating candy than taking vitamins, whereas you need to choke down the Coral Calcium capsules. I think one of the best things about Viactiv is that it is offered in chocolate form. Since many women do have chocolate cravings during certain times of the month, Viactiv may be one of the healthier ways to go about satisfying those cravings. All in all, I recommend either of these products to anyone who feels the need to have more calcium in their diet.
