Have you ever wanted to record a video of your iPhone screen to show your friends? Perhaps it was an awesome game that simply shared the moment. Or maybe you’ve shot a review video for a fantastic app and need to post it to YouTube. Recording video on iOS devices can be quite difficult and often frustrating. Check out these top tips and tricks to drive the best video on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPhone today!
Recording Device
While the Flip and Kodak HD handheld cameras are great for most recording options, shooting video on small iOS devices can be trickier. . I have found that the Kodak HD cam is not really the best option for iOS videos, mainly because it doesn’t seem to be able to adapt its lenses to the close ratio screen required for these videos. Instead, monitors and cameras with HD video output (pretty common in many digital cameras today) are often a better option, as the lenses adjust to the distance from the screen for optimal viewing as you mention. CanonPowerShot SX130IS is actually a fantastic option for iOS devices screen recording. Another option is to use the built-in camera on the iPhone or iPad. I’ve seen a lot of people recording high quality movies on the iPad. The trick is to get the scene just right for a better look, more on that below.
App Options
While there are loads of screen recording and screen capture apps available for both Mac and PC, there really aren’t many options for the iPad , iPhone or iPod Touch. If you have a jailbroken iOS, you can buy the Cydia app, Show Recorder. It’s a really nice desktop app with many output formats, audio recording and recording, remote control options via network connection , lock/framerate settings, iFile integration and more. It sells for $3.99 via Cydia (only on Jailbroken devices) and has received some rave reviews online. Alternatively, on non-jailbroken iOS devices, users are pretty much stuck with the built-in launcher (just press both home and power clips together with .This will take screenshots, iPhone saved, but not video.
Set the scene
I find it best to record a video review or other screen recording in a darker room. Turn down the brightness on your iOS device, and place your camera on a tripod or other stand, if possible, just a little further away from the screen. Load the game or app and start filming. Don’t write near sunlight or other bright sources that can reflect and add to the annoying look. Also, look for a quiet place to record, or you’ll have to cut out a bunch of background chatter/ambiance with Edit video.
Process Tables
If you are satisfied with the video clip, go ahead and directly upload it to YouTube. However, if you need to edit it, add additional music, voiceover, or splice video together, you’ll need to make sure you save it in HD. After all, if your device is set to HD, why do you lose this definition in the video after editing? There are several major video editing options to do it, and some even have saving options specifically for HD for YouTube. Go for it and watch your view of the cliffs!
