Jason Schwartzman’s Side Project: Five of the Best Songs by Coconut Records

Coconut Records is an indie rock group founded and the music project of actor Jason Schwartzman, best known for his roles in films such as “Marie Antoinette,” “Shopgirl” and “I Heart Huckabees.” The band is based out of Los Angeles and was formed in 2006, although Schwartzman is the only lowly member, he often collaborates with other musicians such as Zooey Deschanel, members of the band Incubo, and more. Cocos Records has created some seriously interesting tracks. Here’s a look at five of Coconut Records’ best songs yet, and see what the fuss is all about.

Osterus Occidental”

The first song I ever heard from Coconut Records was “West Coast”. I stumbled upon it while listening to Pandora and loved the sound, so I decided to look up who the artist was. I was amazed when I found Jason Schwartzman. I had heard that there was a robber, but I did not recognize the voice of singing; “West Coast” is a great cool song. It has a gentle vibe, memorable lyrics, and a beat that’s easy to nod to.

Microphone”

Another great song from Coconut’s album is “Microphone”. This song has a very original sound, a unique instrumental accompaniment and is undoubtedly enjoyable. This quirky sound will be on my mp3 player shelf for some time to come.

To You”

One of my favorite songs by Coconut Records is “Back To You.” The sound produced by this song is what would happen if Weezer and the Beatles got together and created. indic pop song Seriously. I can definitely hear both band influences in this song. “Back To You” is a very enjoyable track that definitely deserves more radio play.

Is this a healthy Well?”

Another solid track from Coconut Records is “Is This Healthy Well?” This song is a little different than other Coconut Records songs, it starts off with a heavy vibe and slowly builds to a more moderate tempo. The applause is decent, and the overall track is definitely enjoyable.

My Own Business”

Last but definitely not least, “Minding My Own Business” is another solid song from Coconut Records. This song is absolutely delightful to listen to, and I simply can’t help but tap my foot to the beat. This is probably one of the band’s most commercially appealing songs, and it definitely deserves more radio play.
