Recently, my lady read an article about Jessica Simpson. The source of the article I am not certain. The point of the article was Jessica Simpson had fallen off the radar screen. My wife brought that to my attention. I smirked as I realized how little we had heard about Jessica in recent months. I started to look more and more for Jessica on the news. Day after day, I heard nothing.
I am not a very big Jessica fan. In fact, I certainly supported team Nick in the split. Anyone could certainly tell that Nick was hurt by the breakup over Thanksgiving a few years ago. This break-up appeared to be something Nick did not see coming. My lady often asked each other what happened to Jessica? As we watched the E! or ET or Access Hollywood programs, Jessica Simpson is not even get a mention. Recently she did get press on E! when she mentioned she was hurt that Nick moved on so quickly.
Nick Lachey 2006 Publicity
Since the breakup, Nicholas Scott Lachey has had a decent time. “Newlyweds” was a great show on MTV. A very funny Newlyweds spoof was done by Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon SNL. Anyone watching the show would have thought that Nick when left by Jessica would be doing & accomplishing nothing. Jessica had the movies, the music and the publicity in her favor.
Nick moved on and had a good 2006. Lachey purchase part ownership in a minor league baseball team. Lachey also released his most successful solo pop album that climbed the charts fast. Nick became linked to Vanessa Minnillo also of MTV fame. Lachey and Minnillo have fought off wedding rumors for months. Sources say the couple simply enjoys their time together in this growing relationship.

Since the breakup in late 2005, Jessica happily admitted to dating John Mayer. John Mayer on the other hand has appeared to reluctantly admit being with Jessica. After the Simpson Dukes of Hazard success, many fans looked forward to her new movie release of Employee of the Month. The movie tanked at the box office only garnering 4th place on it opening weekend. Jessica in this movie was both universally panned by critics and not supported by fans.
The Simpson album “A Public Affair” also tanked. The release of her singles garnered air play but not much fan support. The recent Simpson album release was one of her lowest selling albums. Sadly, both Nick and Ashley Simpson (the young sister of Jessica) sold more albums than the pop princess in 2006.
Jessica Hurt by the Nick Quick Rebound
On E! it was reported that Jessica was hurt by Nick having a quick rebound relationship. I can not say that I am surprise to hear her say it. Jessica is a publicity guru. Jessica, by no means, is she as dumb as she pretended to be on the Newlyweds show. She most likely believes there is no such thing as bad publicity. However, she seems to want the sympathy back in her favor by telling the world Nick hurt her.
Everyone that I noticed pick up on the Jessica hurt by Nick story appeared to feel the same way. She filed for the divorce. Jessica can not possibly expect Nick to stay single until she is good and ready for him to date.
In so far as quick rebound, I just do not see how the math works out. I’m still shocked by the hurt comment from Jessica. First and foremost, Jessica left Nick. She filed for the paperwork over a Thanksgiving holiday when the couple was apart.
Nick, 33, conceded to his split from Jessica in late 2005 and began dating 26-year-old Vanessa in the summer of 2006. At best, Nick started publicly dating Vanessa in June of 06. Jessica was reportedly involved with John since 2005.
There appear to be very little public displays of affection between Jessica and John. Vanessa and Nick appear to be quite comfortable in public holding hands and everything else that couples do. Jessica appears to follows John Mayer around the county like a cute little maltase puppy dog. While on John tour, it would appear Jessica is more jealous than hurt. But in Jessica chicken of the sea world, anything is possible. So perhaps someone will buy into her pain. Her new film, which should hit theaters in summer 2007, will be a litmus test. This summer we will truly see if Jessica gets the sympathy swing vote she desires in the form of box office results.
