Labor Day is the last big day of summer. It is a time when families take off and head to the beach, lake, or local Labor Day events to celebrate the American worker. Labor Day, the first Monday in September, falls on September 6, 2010, but the entire weekend will be a time for relaxation and celebration.

Atlanta Labor Day Events 2010 – Dragon Con
Enjoy the largest multi-media pop culture sci-fi convention. Dragon Con is unique in that it encompasses fiction, fantasy, gaming, comics, sci-fi literature, art, music, and film. There is literally something for everyone at Dragon Con.
Dragon Con will be held Labor Day weekend, September 3-6, 2010 in Atlanta.
This year’s convention includes a scientific paranormal investigation workshop.

Art in the Park in Marietta on Labor Day 2010
Enjoy a celebration of fun for the entire park in Glover Park on the Marietta Square. The show runs throughout Labor Day weekend, September 4 – 6, 2010.
Revel to a fine art show and sale featuring 130 juried artists from 16 states. Art work includes paintings, photography, jewelry, sculptures, pottery, and more.
There is a play area for the kids and take home art projects for them to make.
There are also walking tours of five of Marietta’s historic districts listed on the National Historic Registry.
Admission is free. Hours are 10am – 5pm throughout the weekend.

NASCAR Labor Day Weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Atlanta Motor Speedway kicks off the Labor Day weekend with a driver Q & A session, beginning Friday, September 3, at 6pm. This will be followed at 6:35pm by a rocking concert featuring Drivin’ N Cryin,’ a favorite southern rock band.
Later that evening, at 8:45, there is a late-model race car event featuring a race on the Atlanta Motor Speedway Thunder Ring. It will be a 150 lap race as part of the Southern Superstars Short Track Series.
On labor Day Foreigner will join NASCAR in concert which includes passes that can be purchased for driver introductions at the South East’s largest Labor Day party. A limited number of pre-race party passes are available.

Labor Day Event at Park Tavern – Beer & Whiskey Fest
Sunday, September 5th, 2010, this Labor Day weekend Park Tavern is featuring a party that includes whiskey tasting and a number of top notch cover bands. There will also be a silent charity auction. All proceeds of the event benefit Nature Conservancy Gulf Coast Relief Fund.
Five great tribute bands will join Labor Day partiers under the air conditioned party tent. Tribute bands will play cover to Gn’R, Def leppard, U2, Fan Halen, The Police, and Green Day.
The Beer & Whiskey Fest lasts from 2pm – 11pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Labor Day Weekend at Callaway Gardens – Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival
Labor Day weekend is the last weekend Callaway Gardens’ Robin Lake Beach is open for the 2010 season. Come enjoy some fun in the sun while there is still time.
Labor Day Weekend Callaway Gardens also plays host to the 12th Annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival. A balloon glow takes place at Robin Lake Beach on Friday, September 3, 2010. Balloons will fill the air with color all day Saturday and Sunday.

Celebrate Freedom Atlanta – 2010 on Labor Day Weekend
Bring the family out to Celebrate Freedom Atlanta and enjoy a day filled with free Christian Concerts. Celebrate Freedom Atlanta will be on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta, Georgia.
The artist line up so far is Natalie Grant, Seabird, Echoing Angels, Oswald Brothers Band, and KJ-52. The lineup continues to grow and is announced daily on The Fish FM, 104.7, in Atlanta.

Drive Invasion is an Atlanta Labor Day Classic
Sunday, September 5, the Starlight Six Drive-In becomes Labor Day celebration headquarters. The event is known as Drive Invasion and is a tribute to film and music, but includes a whole lot more fun.
During the day the family can enjoy a carnival, antique and classic car show, and live performances on two stages. Food and vendors add a festive feel and fun to Drive Invasion 2010.
After dark, the iconic Starlight Drive In shows cult classics the entire family can enjoy.
This is an all day event, so admission for adults is $28. Children under age 9 are admitted for $5.

U.S. 10K Classic and Health Fair
If you are a runner, biker, in-line skater, or pole walker pre-register for the early morning U.S. 10K classic that runs from Cumberland Mall to White Water. Yes, it’s a lot of hills, but it is a great, fun-filled race.
Admission to the family festival is free. Early race registration is encouraged. You may register online. Race packet pick-up is available Saturday and Sunday during the family festival. There is no race day registration or packet pick-up.
Monday, September 6, 2010 festivities begin with a warm-up and entertainment at the highway 41 staging between Galleria and Cumberland Malls. The race begins around 7am (different starting times for different events) and the course is dotted with musicians and fans cheering runners to a grand finish at White Water Park, where runners receive discount admission for the day.
But you don’t have to wait until Saturday to enjoy the fun. The U.S. 10K Classic family health festival runs Saturday and Sunday, September 4 and 5, 2010.
There are tons of activities for the kids including inflatables, The Braves Experience, face painting, autograph signings, and more.
Enjoy the athlete’s marketplace, where you will be treated to samples and treats that will fill up your race bag. Race numbers for Monday’s Labor Day U.S. 10K Classic can be picked up during the family festival.
