Lambert’s Cafe: Home of the Throwed Rolls in Ozark, MO

Lambert’s is one of the “must see” attractions when traveling through this part of the Ozarks.

Founded in 1942 in Sikeston, MO it became known as the “Home of Throwed Rolls”. Over the years they have expanded to Ozark, MO and Foley, AL. Located near the Gulf Coast, Lambert III was able to reopen one week after Hurricane Katrina hit.

We visit the Lamberts in the Ozarks. One thing we love is the ability to accommodate large groups. My husband went with his teacher to a large church across the street. In a hurry, we could be one of the first groups with about 20 of us. Many other parties that day were bigger than we were.

Everyone is offered to ‘pass around’. In a style somewhat similar to the ballpark’s circulator, some employees roam the cafeteria to offer a prayer. These include fried okra, macaroni and tomatoes, fried potatoes, black peas, sorghum and honey. For some you should already have a plate, while others are in a paper-towels”>paper-towels”>roll on your desk. — these, too, are your double maps.

All the food is all, all can be eaten. And believe me, a serving is more than most people can eat [except when I’m pregnant, then I can eat more]. The XXL Center Cut ham is larger than most of the normal ones at other dinner plates. roast beef is a large serving of shredded pot roast – easily enough for two meals. Splitting the antecenium and “filling” it is frowned upon, but you can fill your antecenium with as many times as you like. d similar and several entries can be shared at the same time. Many entrées are served with a choice of two vegetables, and pass through the ’round’.

All drinks will come in a 32oz mug, with a refill – including milk. Eat free on your birthday, but otherwise expect about $30 for two people. The birthday dinner also includes a ‘hubcap’, one of the biggest cinnamon rolls ever seen.

A few years ago, a friend of mine came to visit from out of state. And I told her about the place where they throw your food to you and she willingly agreed to go. We waited for about an hour – in any ‘busy time’, wait to wait, the tourist buses do this from a regular stop – and began to enjoy his dinner. A few minutes later the ‘cooker’ came out with fresh hot rolls. And I told him to raise his hand and he threw a right blow at it. She literally jumped. “I didn’t think you were serious when you said they threw the scrolls at you!” I laughed and began to enjoy my volume. These guys are good. They don’t go wrong often, but sometimes someone will get a roll in the back of the head when the ‘catch’ isn’t quite up to par. It was all taken in good fun. Republic and military flags are rubbed by the rolls from time to time and they send each one to the person – the kids get a softer bow than the athletes looking 20-something. It rarely takes more than a few minutes to empty a full cart of rolls.

Lamberti lies one of those great, rustic places that you just have to visit. The red staff hangs and often plays the image of a collision. This is one thing that we really try to take out of the castles, because we can’t get an experience like that anywhere else. Lambert’s II is located at 1800 W. State Highway J, Ozark, MO, 65721. It is just east of Highway 65. They can be reached at 417-581-7655.
