Laptop Repair in San Francisco

Central Computers sells new and refurbished laptops and also offers their “Laptop Doctor” repair service with a deposit of $29 to diagnose your problem. They offer a flat rate for LCD screen problems – $139 for repairs and $199 for LCD replacements from 13″ to 17″ in size. They also sell a wide range of replacement parts for DIY repairs. Their San Francisco location is at 837 Howard Street, and they also have locations in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Newark.

Cosmic Computer is located at 1133 Taraval near McCoppin Square. Unfortunately the “services” section of their website gives you a 404 when you click on it at present, which is REALLY not good for a computer store, but recent reviews on Yelp seem to be extremely positive. If the reviews are to be trusted the proprietor and techs are honest and the repair prices are fair. You can call 415-759-9506 to check in for yourself.

Spectrum Computer is at 303 12th Ave. in the Richmond. Services offered are both in-store and on-site and run the gamut from hardware repairs to various IT networking setup and troubleshooting. Prices aren’t listed on their site, you’ll need to contact them directly for further details.

I’m guessing Peter’s PC Repair is a small operation because their web site says they are “on vacation” and will be back in September of 2009. If you read this past September of 2009, reviews on Yelp and other sites seem to indicate this is a pretty good repair source, with a particular focus on data recovery at a reasonable rate. Located somewhere in the Mission, call 415-642-1883 after September rolls around to get hold of Peter.

TechCollective is another repair shop in the Mission, this one at 3260 23rd Street. The website (http://www.techcollective.com/) is unusually up front with a full list of services and prices. On site home service runs $60 per hour for labor, business service is $80. You can bring your rig into the shop for a number of flat rate priced services – data recovery at $150, virus removal at $100, tune-ups at $80, system restoration at $100, DC jack repair at $150 and non-profits and worker-owned businesses get a discounted flat rate to any of the above to $60. If it turns out to be a quick fix they can do on the spot, the charge is only $35, and they don’t charge if they can’t fix the problem. If you plan to drop by for on site service be sure to give their office a call first at 415-285-8882.

Mac users out there may want to try the Powerbook Guy, who also seems to be highly rated. His location is 870 Market Street, Suite 1090 and the # is 415-835-9800. Macs only, sorry everyone else.

Bay Computer Repair, at 151 Valencia Street in the Mission, offers a full range of repairs but doesn’t list their prices. Contact them (http://www.baycomputer.net/) for further details.

TechSavies is at 1040 Larkin Street and seems to be more of a networking repair and troubleshooting place, but they also do seem to do laptop repairs. You’ll have to contact them directly for rates – http://www.techsavies.com/

Moniserv is focused specifically on LCD screen problems and takes care of televisions as well. Backlight problems, dead pixels and full replacements all handled on site. Visit 1600A Noriega Street or call 415-682-8685 Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

FixSwift IT Solutions seems to offer a broad range of repair services. You’ll find them at 582 Market Street #213, or visit their web site at www.fixswift.com. Seems to be highly recommended.
