When I worked as a therapist I saw many clients with various problems. One particular woman who had hypochondria. Hypochondriasis is a mental disorder where a person always thinks that something is wrong with their health. Many people are actually associated with hypochondria, but it remains significant that health problems can be seen as something natural. So many people don’t know how to talk to someone who has hypochondria. I am going to share with you what are some of the typical behaviors shown by hypochondriacs, how this disorder can have a negative effect on their lives, treatment approaches for hypochondriacs, and what kind of people are around someone who can act as a hypochondriac.
Hypochondriac behavior can vary somewhat, but in all cases it is a health concern. The woman I was seeing had a terminal case of hypochondriac. She always complains about various health problems. During our sessions she told me she had had constant headaches for a week, felt nauseous and pain running through her left arm. a>. He is convinced that one day he will heart attack. She also believed she had cancer and the medical profession did not properly diagnose her. She tells me that she knows she has cancer because losing weight has been RAPID, she feels more tired. and many times he was near vomiting. She goes to the doctor several times a week and makes frequent phone calls to her doctor. He did this for two years. His doctor gave him various tests, but nothing was ever found. His doctor finally recommended that he see a physical therapist to see the problems.
My client’s hypochondria had a very negative impact on his life. His relationships with friends, family, coworkers, and medical professionals are affected. For a long time friends and family members were asking to help as much as they could. For example, the doctor would take her, cook for her and run her errands. It took a great toll on many people. Then finally they stopped believing that he had any health-problems”>health with the doctor constantly confirming that there was nothing wrong with his health. She was also fired by two different businesses. She would often complain that she was not feeling well at work. The doctors were going to waste time asking what was wrong discovering that her mental disorder had made her feel stressed, anxious, frustrated, lonely and depressed.
Dealing with a hypochondriac can be challenging. In fact, there is no drug or cure-all treatment approach for this disorder. I used cognitive-therapy”>cognitive-therapy to help her. I worked on challenging her about what her symptoms meant and how It affects her relationships with others. I have worked with her on other things in life besides her health. The psychiatrist who sees her can use the same approach, but she has improved a bit since I saw her and I know how she is doing today.
For friends and family members who know someone who is hypochondriac one of the best things you can do is accept them for who they are . They have a mental disorder and need help. You can encourage them to regularly visit the doctors office and encourage them to ask for help. Avoid complaining about health issues and instead occupy them with activities and talk with them about other fun topics. Such a supportive approach will help them stay about their health and loved at the same time. .
