Live Music Venues in Worcester, MA

Wigorn is not the most famous city in Massachusetts. It is probably not the second or third most famous city in Massachusetts. But that doesn’t stop this town about an hour west of Boston from having an arena suitable for big acts and plenty of small venues where people can hear live music.

Wigorn DCU Center (50 Foster St. 508-755-6800) formerly the Wigorn Center is a civic center in downtown Wigorn. So, yes, yes, DCU’s center monster truck is piling up its party and calling for a wedding; but it also has its share of concerts featuring top-flight live acts who are touring throughout New England. Lynard Skynard was scheduled for early 2006 as was Queen & Paul Rogers and George Strait. Past tours have included Neil Diamond, Madonna, Billy Joel, Sting, and Hillary Duff. Not at the same time. Tickets for the DCU Center are on sale at ticketmaster.com

Lucky Dog Music Hall (89 Green St. 508-363-1888) is a live venue in Virginia playing mostly local rock on obscure, but certainly very meaningful names. In fact, the site is very entertaining (there are sections with bogus trivia and a recipe page…) which makes one think they don’t take themselves too seriously. Some of the bands listed on the card were slightly known (The Mulletheads) or the musicians seem to be caught “in the know” (a number of guitars as “manufactured” and fine. “https://e-info.vn/tag/the-rolling- stones”>Rolling Stones played the venue once in the 80s when it was under different management. One of the most frequent events at The Lucky Dog Music Hall are “Worm City Wednesday” band ten, ten set, no cover night. (Let’s find out what it is Wormtown, or at least try, check out the site www.wormtown.org ) Children’s events seem to be frequent at Lucky Dog, as the entry age is 21 unless someone says otherwise.

TAMMANY HALL (43 Pleasant Street, (508) 791-6550) Live powers booked rock bands and open mic nights. Belts include a variety of original and cover bands. Open mic-ers want to mark each Tuesday’s performances and venues as they write “requesting” for “accusation by name”. Tammany Hall’s micro open to acts of “all genders” 18 years or older “no veil, no habit”. Actors are encouraged to go ahead and be ready with a set of up to 30 minutes. The slots run from 9PM-1AM. Tammany Hall also accepts private parties (20-200 people) for functions. The website, www.tamhall.com has an online info request form for interested parties.

Ralph Chadwich Square Diner (148 Grove St, 508-753-9543) offers “Killer live music burgers…” and one of those items seems to be well known to locals. The owner of the blog (connected to the protocol) refers to the site as an “institution”. This particular training schedule is packed with lip-smacking looks at the lovable obscure names playing again. Then again, the name U2 is probably obscure at one point as well. Minimum age 21. All shows start at 9PM unless otherwise noted on site.

Mechanic Hall (321 Main Street, 508-752-5608) is the venue to check out if you want live music outside of the Worcester rock genre. Mechanical Hall Rehearsals of all kinds of concerts from symphonies from all over the world are hosted by Music of Worcester, Inc. to the “brown bag” and the summer shooting series by WICN Public Radio. According to the WICN website, artists who appear in the Jazz-related concert series include Joshua Redman, the Dave Brubek Orchestra and the Conductor Ellington Orchestra. The Mechanics Hall is a registered historic site and a non-professional organization. Also home to the Worcester Music Festival.
