After a one-year absence, the ultimate electro-club music dance party Love Parade is back and this time in Duisburg with the anthem song “The Art of Love” by Anthony Rother”.
The event was originally designed as an underground political movement, using music to spread love, peace, and promote world change, especially in a time when the Berlin Wall was still standing. At one point the event saw declines but nonetheless, still draws huge crowds.
In the past, the organizers had a difficult time getting sponsors due to the large number of party-goers and the enormous clean-up costs. This year’s main sponsor McFit, a chain of fitness studios in Germany who will finance Love Parade 2010 in Duisburg. The cost is near 3 million Euros, which covers the event, waste disposal, sanitation, private security and first-aid-services, and apparently at no additional cost to the taxpayers.
Love Parade CEO Rainer Schaller said “The floats are rolling, the record turntables are spinning and the masses are dancing again. After a one year break now in 2010 the biggest party of the world is being held in Duisburg – it’s going to be spectacular, it’s going to be the event with the top DJs of the world. We will turn the Love Parade to the lighthouse event in the course of the capital of culture 2010.“
After a successful Ruhr Still Life A40/B1 event in the Ruhr with around 3 million visitors, the city of Duisburg and the Ruhr region can handle the crowds and the love!
Before you head out for non-stop dancing to band and club hits, learn a little more about the Love Parade and how to get around at this year’s event.
The first Love Parade took place in Berlin in1989, four months before the Berlin Wall came down with about 150 participants and in 2008 grew with over 1,600,000 participants. After 2006 the event host city shifted due to bureaucracy of getting a license and is currently held across cities in rural Germany such as this year’s host Duisburg and the 2011 host Gelsenkirchen also located in the Ruhr region.
The Love Parade will take place on Saturday, July 24th from 2 pm until the wee hours of the morning. Performing your favorite hits are international stars such as Luke Slater, Radio Slave, the Dub Pistols with an exclusive DJ set and Guy Gerber from Israel, and David Guetta (You’ve heard the hit “When Love Takes Over” with Kelly Rowland, right?)
Look for happy people dressed in costume enjoying the pumped up music from 16 floats including six from other countries, a continuation of the festivities in an open-air party atmosphere with dancing people, and a comprehensive music program – and all of this is free. The atmosphere is not designed to promote excessive alcohol abuse or violence and there are always lots of police and security on hand to lead the rowdy party-poopers out of the event.
It’s easy to get there using the extensive public transport in the Ruhr region and type in “Duisburg Hbf” (Hauptbahnhof) as your end destination point. From there you’ll be directed to the party location.
Need a place to stay? You’ll probably not use your hotel room until Sunday morning or afternoon but there are many hotels in the 53-city Ruhr region, the main cities of Duisburg, Oberhausen, Muelheim an der Ruhr, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Bochum, and Dortmund offering the most hotel offers.
Be a part of history while love is in the air at Duisburg Love Parade 2010.
