Lovenox (Enoxaparin Sodium Injection) Product Review

Lovenox is a low-molecular weight heparin shot. What is this, Pythia? It can prevent blood clottingsblood clots. This happened to me so I had to take a blood thinner, Warfarin, for six months.

I am now pregnant with my third child. Since I have had a blood clot before, my pregnancy is considered high risk.

After confirming pregnancy, my OB/GYN immediately referred me to a high-risk OB. The high risk OB is running several tests to determine my risk factors for forming clots in my pregnancy. The results of these tests showed that I was helped by taking lovenox shots once a day.

Lovenox lowers your body’s ability to form blood clots. This can result in a drop in platelet count known as thrombocytopenia. This is something that you might come up with at any time. Therefore, you should closely monitor your doctor.

When I read about the dangers that come with Lovenox, I wasn’t sure if it was the shot I wanted to take. I read that in some cases Lovenoxia can cause blood clots. When I shared my concerns with my OB/GYN, she assured me that loving Lovenox was in my best interest. He said my risk of developing blood clots was greater if I didn’t get the shot. I was able to develop a blood clot in the cake. If this were to happen, my baby would be born with mental retardation. When I heard that, I agreed to take the shot.

I administer my shots at night in the abdominal area. When I first started the shots, I noticed that I had huge bruises at the injection site. I will show my best friend, who is a pharmacy technician, these wounds. He asked if the injection site was rubbing after making the shots. I said to him: Yes, I had been. He told me not to do this. Rubbing the injection site may reduce the effectiveness of the medication and increase bruising. I stopped rubbing the injection site and the bruising decreased significantly.

Another thing I noticed when taking lovenox shots was that the medicine burned. It is not a light burning sensation to feel with other shots. A burning sensation that can last for nearly thirty minutes.
Other side effects, as pointed out on the Lovenox website, are irritation, pain and redness.

Because of the complexity of Lovenoxia, it is not recommended that you receive epidural or spinal anesthesia while taking it. This was a huge concern for me. I talked to my OB/GYN and found out that Lovenox can be discontinued two weeks before delivery. At that point, he will switch to traditional Heparin shots twice a day. This will allow enough time for Lovenoxia to exit my account.

Lovenox is a safe medication when taken correctly and under the supervision of your doctor. If you have had blood clots in the past and become pregnant, make sure your doctor knows. You may benefit from Lovenox or another medication prescribed by your doctor.
