Having recently returned to Michigan from the Portland area, I have been a little distressed. It took me a year to find a stylist there that I loved and now I have to go through bad stylists to find the one I loved again. Much to my dismay, I found one on my first try at Master Cuts in New, Michigan at the Twelve Oaks Mall. If you want a good haircut, color, style or in my case highlights. Welcome to Master Cuts.
I don’t think cheaper is always better, especially when it comes to a hair stylist. My hair has been ruined from the most expensive place in town, and I’ve been ripped off more than once from the cheapest place in town. But Teacher Cuts? I really questioned this.
When my teenage niece wanted to do her hair highlights for the first time in her life, I really doubted that the choice of places wasn’t up to me and it wasn’t $29.00. too much to lose if they did a terrible job. So we headed to Master Cuts at 12 Oak Mall.
When they arrived at Master Cuts, we both had our styles ready. While they are walking, they also receive appointments and this is for our benefit. Since this was the first treatment of this kind my niece had many questions about what to do and what to do.
The stylist took her time in answering all our questions, giving suggestions but never pushing. He listened with some specific treatment as we explained what he would look like at the end. Then she got to work.
When my niece was located, the stylist began to ask me questions. What kind of highlights do I want? What color, what desired effect. Now keep in mind, I usually highlight and then pick up a bottle of Miss Clariol, which basically leaves me with some really nice calcs. I did this because after so many years of dyeing my hair, the highlights often become airy, and I always loved the effect this style had on me. I left my bare highlights, I knew he thought I was crazy, even though he didn’t show it. Many have told me over the years, I doubt this woman was different. But he took the time to talk to me about what I was going to do, how I was going to do it, and then he went to work to give me what I was asking for. She discussed with me getting chunky highlights versus finer ones and I decided to take the idea and try it out. What was the worst that could happen if I wanted to cover them properly anyway?
As we went through the process, the stylist was friendly but not intrusive. Not only with me, but with my niece in the chair next to me and my mother, who was certainly more certain, at any moment she began to cry, while she changed her natural-born grandson.
After a while. under dryers, chemical washes, and blow-dried hair, the stylist finally handed me a mirror. I smiled at her because she insisted I wait until my hair was ready before looking back.
When she turned me to the mirror, I almost fell off the chair. I saw fantastic hair. A simple treatment of seven foils has changed my entire face and yes, it hides the roots on the scalp for good color work. I was astonished. I can honestly say this is the best hair I have ever seen. Since I was 45 years old, my hair has gone through many shapes and forms and I have loved many but none come close to loving this new look that Raina, my new favorite stylist, gave me. I’m going to continue my niece’s Lakely, who has much thicker hair than mine. Little by little I saw the strands of hair dry and fall into place, and where my rest, my timid niece, who once sat like a girl, was seen as a beautiful girl.
If you live near or around Novium. Michigan, Master Cuts at Twelve Oaks Mall. Both Raina and Lakely were very personable, friendly, aware of our needs and needs, and very professional.
