MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Ledyard, Connecticut

Foxwoods On property in Ledyard, Connecticut, the MGM Grand at Foxwoods is a great place to stay and play.

If you have ever stayed in Las Vegas and want to find the back east and ambiance and feel of one of the Vegas hotels, you may find just what you are looking for at MGM Grand at Foxwoods. This casino, hotel and resort all remind me of the best hotels and casinos in Las Vegas.

Where is it?

The MGM Grand at Foxwoods is located on the Foxwoods property adjacent to the original Foxwoods Casino & Resort in Ledyard, Connecticut. The two have a link that allows walking between the two resorts. They also share the same rewards program. The MGM Grand is located in the eastern corner of Connecticut off Interstate 95. It is approximately 2 hours from Boston, 3 hours from New York City. and probably about an hour or so from Hartford. While it’s fairly easy, the MGM Grand is about 800 miles from Interstate 95 and the exit and road are well marked. Some like a big casino, free real estate. The MGM Grand has its own entrance, parking garage and valet parking across from the Foxwoods entrance and parking lots.

What helps and what should I do?

From the design and layout of the hotel and casino to the types of amenities it has, the MGM Grand is like a little piece of Las Vegas in Eastern Connecticut. There is modern architecture with an Asian influence, an overall “upscale” feel to the property, a nightclub, several fabulous restaurants and plenty of other things to keep you occupied.

The three restaurants include satellite dining, Alta Strada, Craftsteak and Sacrarium. There is also Junior, which is a more casual restaurant and a bit faster, the Gelato Cafe offers sandwiches, salads and Gelato. Still not fast enough, Food court is something of a food court that has many types of food to take from including seafood, pizza, sandwiches , burgers and Chinese food. Everyone everywhere told us that we eat good, when you are in a casino, everything is expensive, even less well-priced. On certain nights, the Sanctuary, we also went to a restaurant. We were there on Tuesday night and on Wednesday night. the club was open on both nights.

What about that gamble? The MGM Grand Casino isn’t all that big, but it’s spread out enough that everything you play never feels cramped. There is a large selection of slot: machines in all denominations with plenty of tables for those who prefer table games. holes I like the ceiling of the casino because it allows the smoke to rise and not suffocate you.

In addition to the casino itself, there are also lakes and rivers. We spent a lot of time at the pool, which is fair enough. This fan is designed to hold quite a few without feeling too crowded. He sits there around the pool with the outside next to the pool in the grassy area. There are also private cabanas that can be located on the outer edge of the pool area if you want them. We had lounge chairs on the right side of the pool and had great sun all day. What’s nice about the pool area is that the waiters around the pool with a limited menu from Junior and a full drink menu are available. It was so nice to lie there and have cold drinks while we enjoyed the sun and sometimes went swimming.

We never made it to the hotel spa level, which is home spa and facility. Ability to workout as part of the spa

Hotel

If you are staying in a hotel, the easiest way is to pull into the hotel parking lot. They will help you with your bags and then take care of your car. You walk straight into the lobby of the hotel and the desk is to your right. Our check-in took about 5 minutes at most. We use credit cards so we can charge rooms at MGM Grand and Foxwoods. There is also a self-checkout station if you want to avoid waiting for the clerk. The lobby also has a bell desk where you can check in your bags and hold them until you are ready to check in or check out.

We stayed on the 23rd floor in a standard room with one king size bed. Our room was located on the curved side of the building, and the entire exterior wall of the room was floor to ceiling windows with an incredible view across to the confluence of Foxwoods and the surrounding forest fields. The room was a good size and nice in layout. You entered a small hall when you entered the bathroom to the right and the rest of the room immediately ahead and to the left. The king’s room had a very large bed, a table, a lounge chair, a dresser and a work area. At the foot of the bed was a cabinet where the TV was kept. He got up from the desk and lay on the bed and was able to watch it (it was a flat screen TV).

The bathroom was really nice, although it didn’t have a tub, which was the one thing I was actually looking forward to. Instead, he had a large tiled shower with glass. In addition to the shower, there is a large sink and toilet. The windows here are a little smaller, but the views were still great.

It was a comfortable bed. It was soft, there were plenty of pillows and we both slept really comfortably the two nights we were there.

Room is available which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and catering. You could have pretty much anything you want.

Apart from the tub, the only problem we had was the room after the first night. The guard somehow forgot to clean our room. We had a do-not-disturb sign in the morning, but when we left, we took it off, but we never came back to the room. So that evening we checked in with the concierge and had someone come up and clean the room while we were in the casino.

The MGM Grand isn’t cheap, but if you’re a regular player, you’ll likely get discount and complimentary rooms. I consider myself a pretty casual gambler, but I do get offers for free rooms every month. That’s what happened in this stay – we had two complimentary nights.

The Dream Card

For people who are interested in playing at casinos like MGM Grand or Foxwoods, there is a players card called DreamCard that gives you the ability to earn points based on the amount of play you have. The points you earn at MGM Grand and Foxwoods can be used as cash. When you sign up for the card, you’re also eligible for special deals and contests that include free games, free show tickets and complimentary rooms.

Foxwoods

If you wander through the pedestrian link (all inside), you will travel to the Grand Pequot part of Foxwoods. From there, you will soon reach Foxwoods for the rest of the walk.

In the end…

Other than the lack of a trick and the fact that we had to clean our room when we left for the evening, I had no problem with the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. I loved this thing. I found it to be a great place to go and get away for a few days. They also really liked it reminded me so much of the rush in Las Vegas, since this is one of my favorite places to vacation. It was like in finding a little piece Las Vegas here on the East side.

I know I will return and stay at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. I loved the two nights and days there. I was able to lay in the sun at the pool, dine in several different restaurants, and relax in a really comfortable room.
